    Chiming in again. Look who was so good at counting months ago development rate+number of patches.

    Game is definitely better than a year ago, and 6 months ago, and 3 months ago. But still quite a ways to go before full blown 1.0 "somewhat balanced" release status.

    Keep at it UWE.

    Game is fairly balanced as it is now ive been on both rine and alien winning sides multiple times, just waiting to see how this is going to change when they implement t3 . I think the game will be released around summer of 2012, I do believe and hope for it to get released on Halloween I started playing that day back then a long long time ago and look forward to jumping into ver 1.0 then :)

    whenever NS1 was first released we all had 600+ ping, it was super. So already in beta and it's better than NS1's first release. (though NS1 had more maps..)

    If you chose to, in reality either marines went with a JP+HMG-rush to down the alien's 2nd hive and the aliens tried to keep that 2nd hive alive as long as possible to see it completed, at which point the webs\leap\Fade\acid-rocket\movement-chamber won the game for the aliens.

    Another month down and I'm still good at counting.

    Onos, Exosuits etc all stilll need added.
    Server performance needs added.
    Other optimization needs added.
    Balance needs added.

    Release between 2012-2013.

    I say Q2 2012. Can't see it being ready this year. If they work diligently enough and don't hit too many major snags they could have it out in Q1, but my best guess is Q2.

    Onos, Exosuits, jetpacks, shifts and DI are the big features that need to be added, which really doesn't sound too bad. Most of the work for those will be done by the Lua team, so Max can focus more on engine optimization at the same time. Balance has to come last once the game has all its features and is fairly well optimized. Of course adding things like a replay viewer will take significant work from both sides, but it may not be too bad since so many other games have done it before. I just don't know if any have done it in Lua. If you think about how many months that will pass until we hit say July-ish, I think they can get it done in that time.

    If progress was tracked by the rate at which new content and features were added then im not sure things look so good, i think we're more likely to see it late 2012 or mid 2013, that's unless they plan to cut stuff or speed things up somehow, i know it's a beta and i know a lot goes into a game that we might not realise or care about as players but it would be nice if we at least had something new every so often we can point to and say that's real progress being made, from a players perspective theres not a a lot to get excited about most of the time, months and months go by with bug fix after bug fix, occasionally theres a few minor features added, nothing substantial, sure i could wait and come back in a year but at what point is the wait too much?

    I guess everyone has different expectations from a beta, for me i just don't understand why it's so wrong to release the maps they've got and let us beta test them now, why it's so hard to add stuff people want when much of the code appears to be in game already, it will have to be bug fixed and improved at some point anyway so lets get on with it, remember we would still be stuck with the same two small official maps if it wasn't for the community, it was a long time before summit appeared and it's been a long time since, the game has become stale.

    The simple solution is this: just stop playing. I know that's what I did, and my frustration level is much less for doing so.

    Instead of being pissed off about the game not being playable or fun, I'm instead quite happy at what I see as pretty decent progress being made in each patch.

    Once the game hits release status I can just enjoy the good, quality game that I know UWE will make; but they have to go through a lot of GARBAGE *right now* and I'd rather not play in the garbage anymore.

    This game will not be released this year, not even close.

    Game still runs like ###### on most computers, server lags to hell. Player movement still hitches like crazy.

    These are fundamental flaws that need to be corrected.

    Worry about adding features later.

    A LOT NS2 servers(almost all) are <u>too weak</u> for the player slots they provide.

    Servers i tested, that can maintain 30ticks with ~14-16 players: (list is not complete - just a few ones i can recommend)

    US: Inversion Servers, Nades Server
    EU: HBZ, Frelge, (+ pub.eu Server, but not running all the time)
    AUS: Australia-Pure Servers

    Most other servers are not enjoyable. (so try to stick to these servers to not have lag, hitches)


    PS: Not every developer is an engine programmer, saying they should only focus on one thing doesnt work.
    And just because they are telling us about features we maybe see soonish(working on onos etc.), doesnt mean that they stop to optimize and only focus on that.
    Everybody at UWE is doing their best to make a perfect game as fast as possible. (+ they are expanding, hired another engine programmer a few days ago etc. to speed things up even further)

    Frelge is also really good. Something I've noticed with HBZ is that when they are running 2 servers at once my performance drops quite a lot. I think it'd be better if they only ran 1 server at a time.
