Are we losing the hype over this?

Im starting to lose hype over this game, just wondering if anyone else was.

Back in the day NS was absolutely ragged by myself and best friends of which im greatful, but now my friends havent said a word about the game and may not buy NS2. Im sorta thinking this will need to impact steam and places hard to get peeps back into NS mode.

I still play NS a few times a week. There's still a good bunch of people out there playing the original if you're not so keen on the second one and its beta first.

alpha shouldn't be marketed as a beta

Which is true, however this game in its current form is way past what can be considered an Alpha test, its in the early to mid stages of beta and is exactly what it says it is. A better way of describing NS2 at the moment would be to call it a perpetual beta (basically a version of beta where most of the core features are in place but new ones are constantly being added while striving to get to the release version)

Personally, i think its better that if you are losing enthusiasm for the game, just sit out for a few months, maybe wait until v1.0, so you don't subject yourselves to the less appealing aspects of the Beta, and be able to fully enjoy the full game when it's feature complete and more or less, free of any significant bugs.

Beta's are 99.9% of the time fully feature complete at initial stage. NS2 is not, missing many key functions.

The 0.1% is NS2 btw.

Command&Conquer was the last game I was hyped about. These days I enjoy games.

Ive been mapping for months and I'm only getting more excited as time goes by. There's just something magical about being bum rushed by skulks and lerks that won't go away. The fade I hate, but I can even deal with that. It's just a cool game even at this stage

Losing the hype? I have to say it's been on and off, but mostly because of its playability state. I've been dying to play for weeks but 185 is just too messy for me to enjoy. If 186 sees performance similar or better than 184 I'll be playing again. I usually lose hype when we're stuck on a rough build and I haven't watched NS2HD in a while, but Hugh does a good job of keeping me interested when I can't even play the game enjoyably. All in all, the hype is still there, you just have to get a little more involved I think

Actually beta is supposed to be feature complete only bug fixing, alpha is when features are to be added by definition and the wiki :P. But anymore devs do not follow that model.

As for hype, I am still very hyped and can't wait for the release.

I lost the hype .... for the currend build [185]. It got borring, only one or ztwo servers have people playing and..... yeah, I don't enjoy it anymore.
I am looking forward to b186 but I am not hyped.. I rather hope that it will be good.. because as we saw in the past, not every patch is a good one. But after 5-6 weeks I think (and again: hope) this will be good.

But for the game.. I am still "hyped" as ever. It is going to be awesome :-)
And I hope it will be finished next year.. or is at least at some point next year feature complete.

Interesting.... :P

Anyways, the game should be a lot of fun. Look at what its actually competing against, if you get too pessimistic. There's an AVP game being released soon, but NS2 still seems unique

I generally check out the big patches for a few hours, and I check the site weekly for updates. I can't say that I'm super pumped for the game at this point; it's just too far away from release. In the meantime there's other games to play. Although at this stage Guild Wars 2 is going to hit before NS2 and once that comes out I can't see myself playing much else :P

I have not lost the hype.

This is how i see it
I haven't been playing as much because...its very hitchy.
It ran beautifully smooth for a good chunk...and it was awesome.
AI sucks compared to humans...this is why multiplayer is so so ...satisfying.
And I was hunting different aliens down dark hallways, destroying things...growing.
And I was crawling so so slowly just so that first bite could be the head...i don't think i get more...its just more fun.

I check the site daily...and i spread my butter a little to thin sometimes.
I spin up every patch...(except that one while on vaca)

I love the concept.
I think they did a very good job toolwise and enginewise.
Multiplayer that is not vanilla ...is very iteration necessary.
The tools allow quick iteration.
and iterate they do.
The flexibility in the engine and tools also allows them to investigate NEW IP quickly...but that is farther in the future.

And the team building this...loves this game
you can see it in their faces
you can see it in their beards
you can see it in those 'what you talkin bout willis?' posts by Cory

I think the hype was a bigger deal maybe a year ago. I think most of the people who don't agree with the incompleteness, progress speed or design direction have left already. Of course the game still slowly bleeds the hype until the game reaches a notable progress state (probably 1.0 or so), but it's not as big as it used to be.

Speaking of hype, there hasn't been any video upload from NS2 Hype Director for over a week! It has been the worst week of my life...

still checking twitter feed every day. playing pretty much every day when I do have time.
Tried BF3 Beta yesterday. Left it after an hour for some NS pleasure.

Anyways, there shouldnt be a too big "hype" about NS2 by the time, as many ppl just dont have the patience to wait for the next patch nor do they understand it is an (pre-)beta product currently. These ppl will tell others that it is a ###### game, unplayable etc etc. not the best PR ;)

Beta is for Testing, not for entertainment, tbh
• sherpasherpa stopcommandermode Join Date: 2006-11-04 Member: 58338Members
I don't think it helped that AAA companies release "betas" as final demos 1-2 months before release. UWE genuinely used it to improve the game but the polish can't compare to the aforementioned betas.

For me, I got very naggy that I bought the game in May 2009: 2 and a half years is a long time!

I lost my hype over ns2 long time ago, i still check tweets and news daily, but don't play ns2, only when new releases come out for few hours.
I do play ns1 still on Wonga server. It's good. Love ns1 !
