Can we call the infestation blobs something other than pustules?

This is really annoying me, the word 'pustule' is really clunky, I don't think I ever use it in daily life and to be honest it's kinda gross, I don't really need to be thinking of engorged sacks of liquid putrescence when I play NS2.

Can you just call them nodes or something? Something less clunky and gross?

But that's the idea, gross blobs of goo that carpet the floor with putrid slime mold :D

Besides, pustule's such a rarely used word, it makes it sound unique and alien-like.

I'd prefere the word to be one syllable, if I'm going to be using it at least make it easy to use. Hence words like node, which is consistent with the established theme of tech node, resource node, power node etc, important points are nodes. Alternatively something like root would be in keeping with the semi-plantlike theme of the infestation, or spore which suggests a fungal structure, but try to keep away from three syllable words for something that can be described in one syllable.

Also no, it being a silly obscure word doesn't make it unique and alien sounding, it makes it sound like like you're seven years old and heard it on TV and are going through a phase of obsession with silly words.

You mean tech point, resource nozzle and power node?

Who on earth calls it a nozzle?
• AlignAlign Remain Calm Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5216Forum Moderators, Constellation
Yeah I know, but it's the official name. Colloquially they're all just "tech", "res", etc...

Something vein or like bob said above nucleus. Whether as a prefix or suffix

How about: Infest-Station!

No, but really, I'd prefer any of the following over the nausea-inducing "PUSTULE", in order of ascending verbal complexity :P

Pod
Sac
Bulb
Pore
Spore
Ostiole
Sporocarp

I don't even care, I'm calling them eggs.

That's going to be a bit confusing as we already have eggs.

It's more a complaint about it being a bloody stupid word for a gameplay object.

That I find the world aurally unpleasant is a minor consideration.

Besides I'm not killing anyone, I'm playing a silly game where I get points for clicking at the right time.

Pore sounded fine to me, i'd probably use it anyway even if the official name didn't change.

Pustule is a great word. Not only sounds disgusting, it is also the most correct word to describe what the thing is. Why would you want to use a less accurate word?

pustule
Pronunciation:/ˈpʌstjuːl/
noun
a small blister or pimple on the skin containing pus.
Biologya small raised spot or rounded swelling, especially one on a plant resulting from fungal infection.
• Chris0132Chris0132 Join Date: 2009-07-25 Member: 68262Members
Because it's an object in a game, you can call it whatever you want, and I'd prefer it to be called something monosyllabic.

I'd call them "nodes" but we're already using that for two other things.

http://thesaurus.com/browse/node

Main Entry: node/nodule
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: knot, growth
Synonyms: bud, bulge, bump, burl, clot, knob, lump, protuberance, swelling, tumor

Main Entry: node
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: bud
Synonyms: bulge, bump, burl, clot, growth, knob, knot, lump, nodule, protuberance, swelling

Main Entry: joint
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: intersection, juncture
Synonyms: abutment, articulation, bend, bond, bracket, bridge, concourse, confluence, conjuncture, connection, copula, coupling, crux, elbow, hinge, hyphen, impingement, interconnection, junction, knot, link, meeting, nexus, node , point, seam, splice, suture, swivel, tangency, tie, union, vinculum

Honestly, "node" is the best because it means both "growth" and "intersection" at the same time. There is nothing more apt.

I agree

Tech node
Res node
DI node

Please drop the word 'pustule'.

Power Node.
Tech, and Res nodes are the neutral resources that make up the overarching territorial and economic game for both sides. Power Nodes are the Marine-specific territory entity; it only makes sense that the Alien-specific territory be a Node of some sort.

Although Node seems to have a technical connotation these days...

Wow. Well when you put it like that, "node" becomes an even more appropriate word, not just for its twin meaning as "growth" and "intersection".

Technology node
Resource node
Power node
Infestation node
