I am making this thread to give UKW a little love. It is not easy these days being a private company developing a game when your competition dumps endless amounts of cash to feed the ungreatful masses of people that expect everything to be perfect.

I would like to take this time to remind the whiners out there that this is still in alpha\beta stages and rather then ###### about them making it unplayable ask how you can help. The approach UKW has taken is very exciting. They have been very active in working with the players and the community. Giving early access to things that wouldn't even be considered by other companies to truely give the players what they are looking for. This has allowed the players to help co-create with the developers and for that I truly want to thank you.

I know that spending alot of time to get results can often turn out thankless coming from 12 year olds sitting in their basement that do nothing but ###### about how they bought an "unplayable game" and do nothing to help.

I knew that when i pre-ordered the game and that I was going to get early alpha access that this was going to be a different kind of relationship between dev and player. Keep up the good work and don't let the spoiled little 12 year olds get the best of you.

Cheers,

Blitz

His favorite flames are: spelling, grammar, you little kid, and stereotypes. (internet troll = 12y old wow playing kid living in a basement flaming in the interwebs)

I actually found that one to be interesting and almost picked up on the accent. :)

I think we all know "UKW" as "UWE" but we get the point and this topic is a weekly topic started by someone that feels the same as you. I know the search feature on this site is painful and that's mainly because the topic has been spammed with new threads. It would be nice to keep it all in one thread but that would be to organized.

The best thing anyone can do is read up on the E-Team sub-forum and help promote the game and if you have the ability start a server, Servers are a form of therapy to deal with grievers/flamers. You see, we have a community member whom has graciously created a way to smack those individuals down, its called NS2-GmOvrmind and you can find it in the Modding Sub-Forum. Nothing more satisfying than a kick/ban on these offending folks.

I see your new here and i don't want to discourage you from posting but I do want to encourage you to try and find a like thread to post in before creating a new one. better to bump a thread than create another to be lost forever.

Actually that approach also greatly benefited UW and not just the player since pre-orders essentially funded the latter 2 years of production. And to be honest I don't really see these trolls as often as you're saying- we all like NS and that's why we're here. We each have our own expectations and investments (for me 80 dollars and many nostalgic moments) in this game so criticism will come naturally.

Back on topic? I see this thread closing otherwise.

UWE take a lot of crap off people. They should cut them some slack, they're trying to do what a company of 20-40 people normally do in a similar amount of time, without killing themselves and seeing to their families. All while trying to please a community of both patient and impatient players.

Good things come to those who wait.

To be completely fair here, it's not like at least some of that crap wasn't self inflicted. When the original teaser trailer hit, the community was incredibly excited and full of praise for UWE. As we know, plenty of pre-orders were sold. Then the release date came and went. Ah well, we thought, shouldn't be too much longer, after all, if they said Fall 2009, they must have something pretty close to ready. Then we were told about the Alpha. Hot damn!, at long last a chance to get our teeth into something. And it was an unplayable mess. Now before two thousand people leap down my throat screaming "IT'S AN ALPHA", yes I understand that, but it's a big of a letdown to go from expecting a full release game in 2009 and instead getting a level slide show in 2010.

Now it's 2011. In fact one quarter of this year is gone, and where are we at? There's still no Onos, the most iconic part of NS. There's still no jetpacks or heavy armour. The game is at least more playable, I'll grant you that, but even optimistic members of the community would be hard pressed to think that NS2 is going to release within this year.

Of course, UWE has done a lot of good as well. Involving us in the process of development has been an interesting experiment, one that I'm not entirely convinced is positive, but nonetheless it's exciting to be part of it. Their communication with the community has been excellent, and a shining example to other companies out there. UWE also seem to share our frustration too at the delays, something which many other devs would never admit to. But that being said, it's not like a significant portion of the NS community just decided one day to hate on UWE. They had their hopes smashed and different people take that in different ways. Some, fortunately or unfortunately depending on your view, lash out.

The issue is less whether they could release this year, but what they will release this year. As far as I can tell, they have most of the major features done and are just waiting on server optimization. My guess is that they'll release NS2 v1.0 some time in December, but that it will be missing a lot of secondary features such as more detailed server browser, hot key customization, editor features, etc that are not gamestopping items. Also, we could see less polish in both balance and bugfixes, where they get something like 75% of the issues figured out but leave the rest for post v1.0 patches.

Basically, I see them doing continuous patches until they decide its good enough and slap a v1.0 release on it like they did from the alpha to beta transition, but still leave a decent amount of features/balancing/bugfixing left to be done.
