If you really mean it when you say you loved NS1, maybe consider letting the money stay with UWE. Not only can you feel good about yourself, you get a game down the line AND your money actually has a real impact vs. a big studio where it just gets added to the money-pile.

Not trying to guilt-trip you or anything, probably, you have your reasons. Just saying... ;)

Why don't you just wait if you just think it's too early?

You have been Charlie Sheen'd. They've got your money already dude.

Also, if you really want the game to come out, you kind of have to let them have your money to further develop it.

Wouldn't the people in fairy tale land be the ones that buy a pre-release game with no set release date and expect it to be fully playable? ;)

Can you get refunds for any other game you buy and find unsatisfying? I mean, in France, you can't buy a game in a store and get a refund if you've opened the packaging.

I understand that the game is in a state that is still unacceptable for a lot of people, but isn't that something to consider before buying? You're supposed to know what you're getting into before purchase, they're not exactly lying to us (well apart from the Fall 2009 part but refunds back then were more than easy to get), the game is still far from completed and you should buy the game only with that in mind.

by buying early you support an indie title, we fund the game development. Like he said if you really mean it when you say you loved NS1, maybe consider letting the money stay with UWE. If the game was vaporware, I would understand completely. The game however is not. They're releasing builds faster than they ever have before, with more and more fixes. Things will get better, faster. Especially if more people buy.

I feel for UWE. The public can be utter idiots sometimes and dealing with the public on a day in day out basis, sure, I'm qualified to say that.

A lot of people don't research things and want to be told it right off. 20 years ago, you'd have been embarrassed to be told everything and not go in to it without any research, now, it's "their fault" for not telling you.

Honestly, the game has got to that stage in development, where it's had that many previews/reviews and has that much information around about it, if you didn't know what you were getting in to I'd be inclined to say, "Tough, no refund".

It's your responsibility as a consumer to "purchase smartly", it's not the responsibility of the manufacturer or product creator to reimburse you if you've willingly bought the product.

Oh and yeah I've bought plenty of games I don't find enjoyable, although I don't kick up a fuss and whine I want my money back, I bought it willingly. That's life.

he just wants a refund, so what's the big deal? trying to make him feel guilty for wanting his money back is a waste of time. have you played ns2 lately? it has to have at least a year left of development left until a 1.0 release if they're going to fit all the features in that they've promised. it is also still unplayable with the hit registration and other engine/server issues after 8 months since the alpha was released

you don't think it's unplayable? not even 0.1% of the possible player base for this game is ever playing at one time, and that's a pretty generous percentage

so let this dude spend his $35 bux on tacos or whatever is more useful or fun to him at the present and think before you post

    That little?

I'm happy to see that you are still optimistic.

What people could really ding Flayra for are those "minimum specs" that he says can run the engine.

They are so far under a reasonable build for this game. I'm not sure if it was a conscious decision in order to rope people in or what but it really needs changing to something less misleading.

To be fair I've not ever played a beta that performs worse than what we're looking at here (and I'm talking actual betas, not TF2\SC2 nonsense). I thought the game was running badly over here, but apparently there are folks out there with FPSs of around 10-15 at times, which is something I dare not even imagine how painful. It's also not immidiatly clear what the performance is expected to be exactly. I'm sure there was a FPS-thread around here somewhere but I can't find it right now *snip* found it, so yea that took digging into page 2, that's not exactly frontpage-information is it. On top of that, the FPS you get in NS2 isn't really relatable to other games out there. I find 60+ FPS still doesn't feel very smooth (certainly not as smooth as say Source\iD-Tech\whichever), not to mention what 15-30 will feel like. Also, even if you have an extraordinary machine (approaching the 5GHz-mark), you'll STILL have ###### games, as the servers are just outright incapable of deliviring a proper experience. So there you are with your 5GHz, warping all over the place, not landing any hits as skulk\fade, slowly seeing the server crumble and eventually crash. That's just not a pretty sight.

It's a trust system. If everyone was going to purchase smartly UWE wasn't getting any bigger money until they actually had a game out. You can't just cherry pick the good sides of this stuff.

The terms of agreement are different in preorders, I think. Nothing wrong in taking back what you get from dissatisfying purchases even if it doesn't extend to every purchase.

    ---

In general I think UWE has done their share of pushing the limits of good ethics in terms of alpha and beta definitions, misleading sys reqs, progress rerpesentation and release dates, so I've got absolutely no problem if someone wants a refund from that viewpoint either.

Also, the total disrespect towards anyone thinking about a refund is a pretty good summary of these forums these days. Even if it's not nice for UWE, being a rapid fanboy is just going to push NS2 community further into a point where only a handful people actively care about it.

At least in Europe there are very strict laws regarding customer protection especially in field where you order from elsewhere and cant actually "examine" the product.

That doesn't give the producer the right to misrepresent their product. If you buy something, and it isn't what was advertised, you should be able to get a refund if you so choose. I can understand the sentiment of wanting a refund of the current NS2 beta. Though, I would recommend against it. The people asking for refunds don't seem to realize that their not buying the current buggy/laggy NS2 beta, but the eventual feature-complete, awesome NS2 v1.

Yeh, there seems to be a strict legislation if it's necessary to go that way. I'd rather think it as a trust system first and as a legistlative thingy only if there's a huge disagreement, but the legislation is indeed there too.

As far as I've understood it you can get a complete refund even on most of the modern big industry preorders that offer the beta multiplayer 'test'. At least I recall some people playng some BF-series multiplayer betas and then simply refunding when the game had already lost its biggest appeal at the time of release.

I'd agree if you ordered before "Fall 2009".

Although the information is out there, it's their for the user to plainly see. The product is advertised as unfinished. The question is not about how playable or laggy the game is etc. that's irrelevant. It's as advertised, unfinished with lots of information including videos from NS2HD which can be found on the product creators website.

As someone has said there are strict law about this thing in Europe (particularly so the UK). The legality of it is if I went on to the site yesterday and bought NS2, without reading it's an unfinished product, in the UK I have no real right to ask for my money back unless the company advertises a refund policy. It's not expensive enough (£275+)to count as defective or not as intended under the consumer protection law of '87. That's as far as my understanding stretches.

EDIT: The product (NS2) would not count under pre-order or be law to anything of "before released", it'd count as a released product, you actually have the game and rights to use it. It's not vaporware or unavailable to you.

Hopefully that's enough to shove a boot up to kick the whining around this place. If you're unhappy in my eyes, well it's tough, although the team have said before they do refunds, it'd be nice to see people exercise common sense and go to them direct rather than posting on the forums. and it'd be nice to see people support the team rather than basically nitpicking at them.
