Modifying Your Ns Game Files?

<div class="IPBDescription">Then you are a cheater.</div> Now, before anyone rants and raves, I am not talking about custom control configs or configs to boost video performance on older machines (toning down graphics, reducing the amount of things in your HUD). I <b> AM</b> talking about people that use lighter models so they can see people that hide better or increasing the volume of sound files so that people can not sneek up on them. Also people that remove things like muzzle flash because it blocks their line of sight. These things are put in the game for a reason. Now, before you try and say that changing things on your computer is fine because its on your omputer lets try an analogy. We sit down to a game of Monopoly. I give out all the money than take a marker and add a 0 to the end of all the bill values, but only on bills that I am going to use. You get the regular ones. Still fair? Part of a game is everyone being on an EVEN playing field. When you UNEVEN that field by giving yourself an UNFAIR advantage you are <a href='http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Cheating' target='_blank'>CHEATING</a>. Can not be more plain and simple than that.

Post-tag! You're it! I just saw yours and responded there too. heh. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I dont like it when people judge others based on how they jusge others on simple mistakes which arent simple.
Lets see: cheating in diablo2 isnt really "cheating", sure simple mistake ill let it go. Hmmm muzzle flashes are in the game for balance issues but he removes them to gain an advantage that the other players dont have, hmm it also appears this isnt "cheating." Hey maybe his brother did it, yeah simple mistake he just never noticed that they were removed.
I honestly could care less about what you think about me, and or how you see me "judging" people.

That's a pathetic response when in fact I wasn't judging you and never included your name or anything.

There's a difference between the type of cheating Diablo II and this type of sprite cheating.
If the person continues to do this type cheating after he realizes that it's cheating (hopefully) than, he may be a moron, when it comes to this subject.

I don't need this explained to me, I know the whole situation. Perhaps his brother did do it. Or perhaps he's a younger player that doesn't understand why it's not alright to cheat in games.

You really should care less, because you care so much to just pull out a pitiful response like this.
u can remove does stupid muzzle flashes and bitemodels in my opinion.. i dont care if u see me while shooting.. i will own you anyway...

lmao
This one thinks I support this cheating...
Flaming? That isn't flaming pal. It may be a harsh response, but it's not flaming. Get it through your head.
However, I have recently realised (thats some nice work NSCentral) that replacing models might not <i>always</i> be cheating; however, if the dev team includes code to force models, and you <i>still</i> manage to change them, you are a cheater. Everyone not having the same models is very unbalanced.
i know its lame... but I DONT REALLY CARE.. cause if you have skills, you shouldnt be botherd by those weak ppl using this exploits... see my point? those who use this exploits is ppl who arent good enough, that want to become "good"!

The dotted red line is something I added in a discussion elsewhere (It's to show where the Defensive tower that's blocking that elevator is; the screenshot itself isn't mine. The FPS is far too low <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> But I do have those crosshairs installed). What about those crosshairs? They wouldn't be giving anyone an advantage, they just look a bit cooler, IMO.
Should those be disallowed?
Hah!

I think what my friend is trying to say here is that you can have different models they just shouldnt have a certain advantage over another. Which is also my humble opinion.
In other words, having models with big targets on the front and 20 foot spikes sticking out shouldnt be used, but ones that are basically the same shape and not too much brigter than the defualt ones are ok.
Hell if i do change my models i never go for how easily they can be spotted or such i go for how cool they look in my opinion, take that fade skin on nscentral, i think it looks awesome. Sure its black and would make it harder to see but why should i mind? Im playing with a better looking model.
At least thats how i see things....
If that was referring to me, I was saying the same thing you were saying..
And I stalk you on the FA forums! Well did anyway <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

To Flayra et al, I suggest checking out Action HL, possibly contacting the guys there, as they have quite a lot of alternate models going, with a good group of guys behind them, and it's VERY rare to find a way of cheating going on.
I'd love to start meshing up new weapons etc, but what's the point if no-one will be allowed to use them? (And hence, no-one will download them!)
But on the other side of the coin, I can see exactly WHY you need some control over the models in the first place.

Huh? what? who said you couldnt? In fact im dling those models right now, after backing up old ones of course <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->.

Sweet a fan. Yeah ive seen alot of people here from the FA boards also. Whats your name there?
And the reason that i dont post on the fa boards is because i am banned, it was some kind of accident, there was an **obscenity** on dialup (dynamic ip) or DSL form my area who i guess was being a pain in the **obscenity** so they banned his whole class, which i unfortunatly happen to be under. After pming the admins on IRC and emailing them about 3 weeks ago i have yet to hear a word, but meh its not big deal i havent played FA in 3 months and really dont plan too. Its a shame really the mod had potential and still does, but right now the way its going.......especially the community...sheesh. Anyway [/babble]

Im not sure i understand is there something in NS that blocks outside models sprites etc?
And there is something that enforces models, im pretty sure C-D does it in most mods, measures color etc...
Of course <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Point I'm making is the same debate that CS'ers have had going forever; do you disallow custom models, skins, and sprites at the expense of getting rid of custom crosshairs that look really good, or custom models that are there to make the game more interesting, rather than cheating?
The CS solution is so enforce models, but not skins, and to enforce sounds.
NS requires just as much stealth and sneakiness as CS. Changing the models, changing the sounds, changing the skins can all impact on that; but where can we draw the line?
Too many things becoming restricted may mean the end of custom crosshairs, custom models, custom whatever... but if we leave them we give cheaters the advantage.
Personally I think the CS solution was good; allow custom models so long as they don't extend beyond the bounding box, allow custom skins, lock sounds, allow custom sprites. It won't stop people using blocky, ugly models and bright skins; but it also gives people like me, who enjoy customisation just for kicks (And use only serious mods, like the custom crosshairs, and the Aliens NS models) the ability to play around and have fun without screwing over the gameplay for others.
I really like the models on NSCentral. My motivation is evident to those that aren't just looking for an arguement. Should I be Allowed to have all bright pink models for the aliens so I can shoot them better? Absoltely Not. Is there a way to keep the llamas from doing this and allow some of the awesome models on NSCentral? Probably not. So, that said I think they should lock the models. Maybe the Dev Team could release a models.wad or somthing to make some choices available. To simply allow any type of modle is only asking for trouble and only inviting the llama brigade to set up shop.
My opinion on having different skins is unfair and should be dissallowed completely. There is not a single good reason in the world to change the game, only people that are allowed to do that are the makers and map makers.
I find that playing drunk enhances my skills. No seriously <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Er, um, I mean... uh...
