alternative to youtube video news please?
hey guys, just a small suggestion
I'm sure if you're all aware certain countries like China, Vietnam etc, block youtube. I believe this is a big problem for UW, as here in China we can view the NS2 website, but not any of the drool-inducing video's that are linked from youtube.
Before you scream insults at me - yes i use proxies, but they just don't work properly (the free ones). websites where you can download proxy software are also blocked. Also, many Chinese have no idea what they are or how to use them.
Considering china has the largest number of internet users and online gamers in the world, i think it would be in UW's best interests to make as much information available to this large potential market as possible. Sure a lot of Chinese gamers may not be able to read the English text on the NS2 website, but if they could see the videos, that could convince them to try the game.
You don't have to change from youtube (obviously its the best option outside of these blocked countries), but maybe upload the videos on a site that isn't blocked, and provide the link beneath the youtube one as a mirror?
it may take a little more effort to do, but the potential benefits would be well worth it.
Sorry i don't know what alternate video sharing site should be used, feel free to list some sites and i'll see if they pass the "great firewall of China"

Not trying to be funny here but would investing funds into mirroring large videos have any returns in China ?
The official beta trailer was / is available on a number of prominant gaming sites like GameTrailers, are those sites also firewalled ?
I dont represent UWE , so prehaps a official repsonse may be better but to be honest I personally cant see any gains from mirroring the vids in a manner to bypass the firewalls... hell does China even allow Steam ?
You know there are a lot of people, less money.
In China its a honor to get a copy, if somebody copy you its a honor.
Have you try some proxy?

IMO, waste of time for UWE...
If you wanna get around the youtube issue just do UWE a favor and upload the NS2 videos to one of the crappy youtube copy websites like youku. I checked youku and NS2 videos already have 1000+ views. UWE could even make a duplicate channel there.
If UWE release pre-order sales by region info you would surely see how tiny the chinese market is for them.
OP: here's a link which isn't blocked and you can see a lot of the official videos http://www.soku.com/search_video/q_%E7%89%...A4%A9%E6%8B%A92

Ok, perhaps i was overreacting, but reading the comments one could think that the chinese are all pirates and even if they would buy it, they would not be able to setup good servers.
Anyway, we should stay on topic :)
And yes, there is hostility towards china in this thread, some comments about how all chinese will steal everything due to 1 anecdote, and that they lack the willpower/money/other to set up a server.

exactly, i don't think piracy would be a big problem.
Also, China is now the world's 2nd largest economy, and there are MILLIONS of spoilt only-child gamers spending their rich daddies money. Any assumption that China is a country full of impoverished peasants is crazy. Sure there is a lot of poverty here, but there is also a ridiculous amount of wealth. Do people realize how much revenue blizzard collects from just their Chinese WOW subscribers? sure most would only pay by the hour, but they still pay.

IMO, waste of time for UWE...

There's still a NS1 server in mainland china (and 1 in taiwan too) that has a bigger active community than the Australian community i left behind... once NS2 is officially released i'm sure there will be servers. and if users can't afford their own rig, they'll just play it at an internet cafe... in fact most would do that anyway.

(i can't upload them because i can't access the original videos remember?)
thanks for the site, and yes a duplicate channel for the news videos is all i'm asking for in this topic.
sure the market would be tiny now, but it has a lot of potential. think positive.

yep that works, once again thanks peregrinus!
I currently upload the game trailer videos there as you see, I have no problem in spending a few mins putting the dev blog vidoes on this section: http://www.indiedb.com/company/unknown-worlds/videos
yeah GameTrailers works, but it's just that - trailers. it would be great to watch the news videos, gameplay footage, NS2HD videos etc.

-EDIT-
i just checked this beta trailer topic http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...howtopic=112649
the following sites aren't blocked:
viddler.com
fileplay.net
jeuxvideo.com
gamespot.com
gamestar.de
fixed.
Um, no? How is that in any way true? Each of those farmers is $15 more a month for them. And, does blizzard sell gold? No... So its not like they are losing revenue from that.

Did you just think he told you to upload the vids?
The bold text said UWE, not you :P. UWE is short for Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
Also, are you guys telling me that blizzard displays (I know blizzard might need the info, but it shouldnt be displayed to hackers :P) private information on players accounts? Thats just a plain stupid security risk asking to be exploited for identity theft and such.
And in addition to that, it lacks a good way to create temporary passwords and a system to share those with players ingame? Would be the best way to protect players who buy power-leveling from later on getting their gear stolen.
The password will expire when the servie is completed, and if they do steal your gear and such, the logs display what password was used, and which account it was sent to.
If a company makes a temporary account to not get any consequenses blizzard would just have to look up the accounts private info to find who is behind it, then the scammed person can sue them for breaking the contract, provided the contract included some sort of paragraph stating that the hired company would not be allowed to use the password for stuff like that).

Umm yes i am well aware of what UWE stands for. When i quoted him i changed that text to bold to highlight the part that i wanted the dev's to read.
Go check his original post, you will also find he asks me to "do UWE a favor", hence my cheeky reply :P
