    It has nothing to do with scaling it. It's just bulky. Too much fat, excess. The important portion of the icon is the gatling gun - it's what most strongly defines it, and how you would most strongly identify it. You gotta realise it's a representation, not a thumbnail. Same reason I suggested a box with a robotic hand/manipulator for the MAC. Same reason he's using circles and triangles to represent marines.

    xVisions: most of those look good, I especially like the marine icons and the command centre icons; could you do a minimap mock-up?

    It occurs to me that a blood splatter representation may serve as a good, simple death icon.

    That is the older set you are quoting Harimau, not the set with darker outlines and different arrows. I hear what you are all saying though, and will go about changing them today.

    Think I'm done here.. The specifications don't really say what format to send them in, so I'm guessing the source .psd with alpha channel?

    Yeah, psd with alpha would be fine. Theres a plugin to make it a .dds which is what is used ingame if you wanted to do that. I can do it for ya if you'd like too.. if minimap is in game it would be nice to see your own icons in there working. come on updaaaate

    Just noticed.. but the skulk has no big teeth on the world model version... kinda odd next to the inside the mouth model.

    I like supernorn's best, but they are harder to 'read' than runteh's. I know you removed the black outlining on purpose. But I think you should add them again. It would cause the same 'boost' in readability as runteh's had.

    They're looking really good now, i was thinking though perhaps it might be best to add a few real marine icons as an extra?

    If you currently look, the alien icons have a different feel to them than the marine 'icony icon' feel they have going. If I did that for marines as well I think it would loose its 'modern army, futuristic interface' feel.

    I have had a go in earlier versions with marines from the top perspective - and it looks awkward imo.

    People will like one way, others will like another. I really want to go for clarity, and this current update unifies the marine 'player' icons by having the circle as the player, and then the arrows informing of the type of marine/jetpacker/heavy.

    I would love to have a go, but having worked on these icons for 'days' now trying to get them as right as I can do I really am closing off this project for myself. I have tons of other stuff to do at the moment really, and I have taken time out of it to do these.

    I have taken a look at the death icons again, and I am going to change them (stylise them slightly) but then i'm finished. Phew.

    this is perfect, and if it's not released in the game i hope we can change it ourselves.

    I believe we can simply change the file ourselves once the patch hits by replacing one file. Just need these guys making these minimap-sets to convert it to .dds-format, share it on these forums, pick your favorite and we should be good to go.

    I like how runteh's are smoother and easier on the eye. Its more functional in that way. But I still like the other one too :P its more funny.

    Man those are both good, but I have to give the edge at present to supernorn's set. The death icons look great, the chamber icons are now awesome, and overall it just seems like a more cohesive set.

    Just updated the death icons, stylised them differently from everything else. I think the claws have turned out better. The other is bullet holes.

    Think I'll go with your set actually Runteh ;) Consider it complete!
    One thing that is perhaps outside of the guidelines, but that is to have the Extractors show rank too. Not sure if it's intentional that you can't visually see which rank they have, but it's perhaps worth considering later down the road if the developers want to implement that. One thing I have always hoped they would do with the marine Extractors is to have one of those "pumps" with the cool blue light that go in and out to be activated depending on the rank. So at rank 1 there's only one pumping, 2 there's two and 3 all three of them.
    Anyway I'm not saying you should add them but it's just one of those things I've thought about for a while now.

    Absolutely stunning.
    I especially like the new fade.

    Just a couple of things I don't like, though:
    The MAC and the Sentry icon.
    Both are too bulky, and they don't really have strong identifiable silhouettes like everything else.
    I would emphasise the gatling gun on the Sentry more (give the gatling more space with respect to the rest of the icon). And I would shrink the MAC a bit, and attach a robotic manipulator to the side '-C (the MAC model does have these, so it's just an emphasising).

    For the IP you could make the "ring" white instead of the default colour (green).

    Another thing is, it doesn't make sense that alien death is a slash, and marine death is bullets - if that's not what you're trying to do, then I dunno, maybe the colours should be swapped. Depends how they implement it in the game, but I imagine the unit icon will change to a death icon; green marine will change to green bullets, or red slash...?

    Thanks for the comments guys, the 'slash' is for a marine death. I think it is kind of cool, because it fits in with the whole NS2 video and the slash marks. The bullet holes are for the dead aliens.

    I think this will be very obvious if these icons are animated.

    As for bulkiness, I'll have a little look at the sentry before submitting. The Mac can just be reduced in size.

    One thing before you send it Runteh, the alien commander-eye icon... it has a bit of transparency where there shouldn't be I think, just above and below the cut-out of the eye. Intentional?

    It wasn't intentional, but I thought it looked cool. I might stick a light grey under there so it looks like highlights, now you mention it.

    Adds a bit of detail to the icon which was (without it) a bit more plain and too similar to the marine icons.

    Aye, highlights will probably look better. Looks a bit odd on the mini-map preview when it's transparent I thought. The shape of the eye is a bit lost when there's more see-through parts above and below the eye.

    These icons are the best ones in my opinion! :D
    Allthough, i think it would be better to draw the actual marine instead of the arrows.
