<div class="IPBDescription">marketing?</div>Maybe it would be a good idea to have a steam store page to A. boost $$$ and B. use steams new recommendations feature so people like me can give props to NS2.

Although the point could be made with the games current state that could be counter productive. Also I have no idea how much valve charges for such things.

Steam doesn't allow pre-orders on their Store usually until about a month or two before the actual release date is locked in.

Some bigger publishers get away with more time 'cause their giant publishers that will hit their due dates.

Since NS2 has no released final date.... kinda hard to lock in a page I would assume. Plus I'm sure they want to funnel everyone they can to direct purchasing instead of letting Valve potentially skim the top a tad.

Big publishers don't make the release date and release unfinished products most of the time and then release updates. Look at Fallout NV as an recent example and there are many more.

Probably worth working on the store page closer to release (or when a beta is available on Steam's shop directly or something), but a good idea.

Yes, but the difference is that people still pay for the games if its a hyped release, so its "okay" by the market.

One of two things should get the game to the Steam store:

    1) Solid release date; in Release Candidate phase.

    2) NS2 needs more funding again.

It's too buggy and incomplete in addition to having a recent flood of funds, so now's not a good time.

I think the problem is that it'd be people buying a beta?

I am pretty sure UWE are wise on the business/marketing advice side of things. Given that they will most definitely have a professional business advisor who visits the company occasionally, as well as support from the bank I gather.

The big mistake in doing exactly what you said right now, is that they are already (even though it is Alpha/Beta) finding that newcomers - for some reason - think they are buying into a complete game. The last thing you want when you are trying to have fun developing a piece of work, is streams of people contacting you with problems or asking for refunds.

It is just a bad idea in general at the moment.

Unfortunatly its not possible to get on the Steam store without a release date (Doesn't have to be an exact date, more of a close approximate?)
Without one, they aren't allowed to put it onto the store for pre-orders.
