<div class="IPBDescription">Steam downloaded 651mb of NS2 today!</div>Thread says it all... Were patch notes released anywhere? I can't seem to find any mention of the patch having come out.
Something clearly changed, UI text is actually readable now... But I'm not sure what else happened.

I'm pretty sure I already had 151 installed... And I've had steam running for a while, so I can't really think of a good reason for why it randomly decided to redownload a patch 12 hours ago. o.O
Fun fact, the current gameplay tasks in the current "sprint" all have been started, but havent got further than that. Makes me think they dont release a patch after every sprint :S.
We assumed that last week too. ;)
I don't mind how long it takes to release the next patch. It'll just keep getting bigger and better. :D
Depending on if the Fade makes it into this patch, I'm predicting the patch will be around 1GB.

Devs already said that Fade won't make it in the near future. So don't expect them. :)

We're not planning on releasing a patch until we have all of the networking issues sorted out, and I'm still working on that.
Sweet, keep up the good work, Max! Is BrianIdiot helping or are you the only one working on the netcode?
max, take your time. for really reals.
Great idea and honestly that seems to be the #1 issue that needs to be addressed now anyways, good to see it's going to be fixed soon.
Which is very sensible given that it makes it very hard to test anything else if you can't really play the game.
Ok, hope it is done soon, it is the update/fix I have been waiting for!
Must be a big nasty bug (or a hive of small bugs) if it takes around 3 weeks to squash it XD. Maybe time to spray pesticides into your hardware?
I really wish pesticide would work :(.
To be honest I don't think we're already there where you need to be able to play the game to test anything, really. Mostly because there isn't much of a "game" implemented yet that warrants testing. I would expect we're going to test more of the technical aspects, at least in the coming weeks/months. More and more game elements will be added consecutively during that time of course, that will eventually result in the deep game play that we're all expecting. But it will still take quite a while and until we get there we will be testing "the software" more than "the game".
Do you know where the troubles are? I read some responses for unusual high overhead bandwith.
Do you have a graphical display how you build the netcode for us? Only if it is not classified, ofc.
Curious if you could give us more details on the issues and what youre working on? :) It's nice having the short progress with stuff, but I'm sure you can give even better (and more technical) explanations.
Wish we could help you out there. But it would probably require opensourcing the networking code :P
I find huge releases make it hard to pinpoint causes of specific problems. When you change your code in 500 places, who's to say which specific (or which combination of) changes caused a regression.
I also find that large releases make testing more difficult. Testers get into a slow testing mood (due to the lack of releases) and then a huge release comes along and overwhelms them. It takes a while for them to get back up to speed. I believe the same is true for public testing.
P.S. I realize that there are sometimes massive changes that you simply cannot do piecemeal. However, these should be the exception to the small release rule.

You have to keep in mind, preorders aren't the first line of defense in terms of testing. They have playtesters for their internal builds. Also, Steam releases apparently have quite a bit of overhead associated with them, which is wasted time if they do many, small releases.
To the OP: It's funny you should mention that, because I see a steam friend currently playing NS2, out of the blue, which I found completely bizarre - so I thought there must have been a patch, but there's been no mention anywhere, until this thread.
I personally removed NS2 until a later date, where it's more playable and I've updated my drivers.
We can live with the network code as it is for now - we know it's an alpha - and introducing too many new elements and features at once might make it harder to track bugs and test the new code to destruction.
Forget the whine, i'm just chomping at the bit for the next release - but at the same time i'm hoping it's NOT on Friday - it's my wedding anniversary and could do without the distraction ;-)

I've got Aspergers Syndrome, i'm useless at that sort of thing anyway, and she knows it only too well :-}
And thats the best thing i have heard.
UWE is smart, id much rather wait for all the networking stuff to be fixed so its playable, and think about it this way.
Once its sorted out, we are getting a MASSIVE patch from the looks of out.
Im very happy you guys are waiting.
