Lower resolution textures?

I'm not sure how high this would be in the list of priorities, but those of us using older computers to try playing the alpha are failing miserably right now due to the extreme load being placed on hardware. Would releasing lower quality/size textures be a possibility for the alpha? Personally I can't even get past the loading screen; i dont even see textures, instead there are untextured polygons all over the place.

That must be a very old PC setup. I assume it's possible, but prob wont be even tried till beta/release.

What kind of system do you have?

Most of us are getting bad performance ingame so just give them some time to go through the bug reports so they can fix it :)

I don't think it's actually possible to get lower resolution textures, I mean they're practically 8-bit

The character models have a good res - didn't see anything else which looks high res.

Doesn't turning the graphics down lower the texture resolution?

I can only see texture resolution being a problem here if your video card is literally 5+ years old...It doesn't look like it requires much fill rate to render this game. Not a lot of complex shaders or anything. There are several decent video cards with a sub-100 dollar price tag right now.

yeah i'm using a rig with a radeon 9700 right now (lol) i was planning to build a new comp for ns2, but i haven't done it yet since i wanted to see if the game would be playable at the minimum listed specs.

It has nothing to do with the textures honestly.

The Dynamic Shadows and the Shaders the engine is using is whats causing poor performance, but mainly Dynamic Shadows.

    Type

    r_shadows false

in console in game(not at main menu)

    Should drastically boost FPS
