Use your noggin guys.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Lol, use your noggin... They have already said you can't pre-order the special edition anymore. The fact that the timer was on the same 'button' as the pre-order special edition, does not mean it was a timer for that. They were just saying, "Look how long is left until alpha launches, you should pre-order special edition!"
Alpha launch is suppose to be when that counter hits zero, give or take some time.

Alpha launch is suppose to be when that counter hits zero. Hopefully it is within 1 hour or so of it doing that. These last hours are already hard enough to wait for :P<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm afraid you got it wrong. You can still preorder the Special Edition itself, you simply can no longer upgrade from Standard to SE. One of the devs themselves said that the counter was counting down to the deadline of SE preorders, while at the same time mentioning that they 'hoped' to get the alpha out around the same time.
Release it 15:00/3PM San Francisco time, and Europe will have the game 24:00/Midnight. I do not see the problem here, why only please America when you can please more continents without having someone to whine? It's not about the time differences between continents, it's about the lack of knowledge on when to release a game, what masses to please. I don't think Americans give a *beep* if the game is released 3 or 6 PM, for them it's still PM and a great time. It's not about patience, it's about releasing in a smart time and to aim at continents you think you will get sales in. I think the European scene has proven itself more dedicated than any other scene really. Just look to ENSL and you will see how many people (of the few left playing NS) that are still playing. As far as I see, the build is ready, and this just makes it even more sad. Epic fail. At least now we know for future products how this roll...
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->This is the first version of many versions to come. We hope you enjoy it<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Of course YES, waiting for this moment over years! to bad its later for germans :(
Yeah, that's just the engine test. Yes, it's the 26th, but I wouldn't expect the alpha to be released for quite sometime. Not for at least another 12-13 hours. :P
I hope all of you are going into this alpha test excited because you're getting to aid NS2 development, and not because you're getting to play NS2 for real. This will be little more than a glorified upgrade to the engine test. We're in this test to catch bugs, not to get an early play of NS2. Don't be expecting a complete game, here.
