Sounds to me like this is a home pc on a home connection? In which case I would ask what your upload speed as it is probably not 16mbs I would expect the server to at least be initially quite unoptimised and therefore to take considerable resources. I would be surprised if you can run a decent server on those specs

From other games i can tell you that you may be able to host a 10 player server, with luck. But that depens on the netcode. Dont expect much.

Depending on the release i may host while i attend SC2 midnight launch. Should help people in the early scramble. Home it doesn't lag much, 3.4ghz quad, 4 gig ram and 5mb upload.

I know that Agent Mulder is planning to get a Jedi Temple Alpha server up and GISP is down for ABLE.ns2. Wondering if Titan's were going to get back in on the game, guess i'll have to ask a few of them ;p Also think vh2/VG are gonna have something.

Has anyone had any experience hosting a windows game server through virtualbox on linux (ubuntu specifically). I'm not keen on swapping over to windows just for NS2 Alpha and losing access to websites and other stuff I'm hosting. Any info that would help me (and hopefully others) set their servers up so all the good people in black armor can have a good time come the 26th would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to get just that to work. Got almost everything working except having trouble with bridging the ethernet connection at the moment. Can eventually help you with the other stuff or if you have any questions just pm :) I'm running ubuntu 9.04
<!--fonto:Impact--><span style="font-family:Impact"><!--/fonto-->We're NOT looking for any ded. server operators right now. Well, it looks like the Linux server admins won't be hosting for the alpha. Requesting Linux dedicated server for the beta! :)
As stated in another post I might throw a 100/100mbit dedicated server up. However if it's going to be empty I wont bother, and it seems there's more than a few in EU who wants to throw a server out to us :)

Hmmm, That is worded as win32 server in turn could just be listen server but i thought i heard otherwise on the bashandsmash.com podcast.
Anyways, even if it's just a listen server most gaming clans/groups can host amongst themselves during the alpha stages.

hats great though will the dedicated server be released a few hours earlier? just for us Europeans to get the serve rup before 2 am :p
So will the dedicated server be released at the same time as the client? I think I remember in NS1 when a new version got released the dedicated server was always released a few hours before the client so that we could set it up and have the server running when the client was released which meant people could start playing right away.
Hopefully the developers will have a list for game server providers. Since other games and mods do.
Also if the dedicated server files are released on alpha date and is host able, Go Network Servers will be happy to provide servers throughout the popular cities of the USA.
It is all up to the 26th to find out if the files will be released on the same date.
pingKing.at will bring several servers in germany:frankfurt, germany:munich and austria:vienna. they are known for highqual cs servers, so i think they will do their job quite fine!

will the alpha dedicated server will be released separately? I ordered the standard edition so I won't be getting the alpha, however I will still like to host 2-3 Alpha servers to help out.

I currently run a Linux Team Fortress 2 server. It's not the latest hardware but it can support 24 TF2 players. I would be more than happy to switch.
