Failed promises that are intentional, I can tell that I aint pre-ordering any game from UWE (I'm referring to alpha promises). If someone wants to comeback with "they didnt do it on purpose" I can tell that after six months they have things still on "sketch" pretty sure you cant miscalculate that even with major problems.

And who cares about that? You sound like you married UWE and now you sulk because they forgot your anniversary. It's a pretty simple situation, really...

    A) NS2 is vapoware to get money from us, they are doing all this intentional to grab a quick buck. As sad as that might be i still wouldn't care because than i would see the $40 i paid as an payment for the years of fun i had and still have with NS1. I think i don't have to point out how unlikely that would be at this point anyway...

    B) They are taking their sweet time to make it as good as possible, the pre-order money allowed them to make it even better but things like this take time. So what? Do i want to play it? Sure! Am i okay with waiting if this increases the chances of the game beeing more successfull? Sure!

At this point UWE and NS are a dreamstory of PC gaming, a small mod team making the big jump to a full retail game. With the help of their fans and community. Now you might say "jada jada this happens all the time!", no it doesn't. Usually these mod teams get bought up by a big publisher and said publisher after that starts having influence on game design. This ain't happening here and i'm happy about that because the creative people are in full control and that's something very seldom nowadays.

Of course the situation would be different if UWE would be owned by Activision, but they are not. This game, this company and this community are a unique example of why PC gaming is still strong and still delivering innovation while making the impossible possible. I'm happy to be part of this unique situation and i hope it will evolve to something wonderfull and successfull. If that requires even more waiting than that's fine with me.

There are easier and less public (in the media spotlight) ways to defraud the public of money. Some people are becoming ridiculous on these forums. Get out your house.

I agreed with everything you said, but this part has intrigued me.
Are you insinuating that their "sweet time" is something like a "favor" to us?

I hope not. That could be called "sweet time" until pre-orders have began. But, for now, it's not "sweet time", but, excuse me, their task/job/obligation/responsibility/work/whatever.

    :)

PS: I don't mind not being one of the 25 early testers. In fact, I appreciate not having to play NS2 with a terrible first time experience (assuming that it's full of bugs, if not they'd have released to every pre-order).

Well english isn't my native language so i may have missused the term "sweet time".
But them taking their time is a good thing for us and a good thing for them, so i see nothing wrong there. And i don't really wish them a horrible time working so i rather go with a sweet time :D

They have had about 4 years to make the game. I think...

They made thier OWN engine in 2006 giving them around 4 years. So, if I know what I am talking about (Which I probably don't) they had to re-create everything so it fits with the engine. Is that right?

    Give them a break! XD

no, they are making their own engine NOW. making a good game engine is a looong and hard process, it don't have a descreete end.

they are creating content to put in the engine now, and with that they surely have to add / change features in the engine.

and we shall be happy if the game is fun to play at alpha stage.

playing an alfa game is like moving in into a house that is under construction, without walls, electricity and water. ( a bit like the current status of most of detroit*)

    *more like deconstruction..

Why there are no critics about the NS2 game play from one of those 25 game testers.

And also why 25, why not 16 or 32 ? :) 9 players for watching
or they play 25+UWE developers is equal to about 32 :)

The answer is very simple. You already know it.

QUOTE (yimmasabi @ Jul 12 2010, 05:59 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

And also why 25, why not 16 or 32 ? :) 9 players for watching

Because playing on 32 player servers is not necessary.

Right now the enormous bugs are being fixed. Like a skulk passing through a marine because physics was broken (this was a bug). One does not need 32 players for the bug testing being done right now.

this is because 25 is a subliminal number that UWE is dropping to us....

    2 + 5 = 7

and 7 is the odd number before 9 and then 11

and you know what 9 11 is!!!

UWE is trying to make us blow up the world trade center!!!! again

Why do people don't like to study mathematic?

Did you notice the "~" in the twitter post that you're talking about?

In 2006 on December 1st. They started to play around with the dynamic infestation. Thier blog about this states that it was before they started to make their own engine. I am not sure when they started to create their own engine. 4 years is the maximum time they have had to create the game including the engine (Most likely less time though)

I wouldn't doubt that the alpha would NOT be fun to play. If others played we could just walk around and test things (Get the feel of the game) Beta will be better but Alpha is closer.

And with the amout of testers. There has been a large conversation about it being approximately 25 players. On page 1 or 2.. Something around that.

    Max's lines-of-code-per-day is over 9000!

Divided by 25 testers that's 360 lines per tester per Max-day.

360... this can only mean... the testers are actually only testing the XBOX 360 PORT! WE'RE ALL DOOMED.

    ...
Now THAT would be something to complain about.

Afaik they didn't make the engine at UWE, afaik the engine had been a personal sideproject by Max for quite some time before UWE.
So yes they are probably working on the engine too, but originaly Max build that thing before they even started working on source NS2.

I think somewhere it is said max has been working on his own engine ever since the days of NS1. As you can see with more resources, full time project and Kurt he has been able to progress that somewhat.

Some people are going a bit over the top with thier theories... I don't think they want us to blow up the world trade center again...

I don't think they will bring it out on the Xbox... But if they do *Cracks Nuckles*

This game needs to be good, to create a large community, maintain it, and provide a sizable profit to allow UWE to stay in business and preferably prosper. The 25 play tester beta did make me a little jealous as well (for not being picked), but in reality had they not notified me, while I wouldn't have these pangs of jealousy, I also wouldn't know the game is entering an alpha stage, which I imagine would mean the beta can only bet at most 6 months off.
