That'll shutup the naysayers
A webcam should be put somewhere in the UWE office and update every few minutes or so. This could help give people an idea of what really goes on at UWE.

But if the team has to stop working naked, that might slow down production.

You do know that this is not the first web cam in UWE thread? The last one degenerated into "lets put a web cam into their bathroom" territory. Lets see what happens here :P

how about instead of webcam, they can install a siren that goes off everytime a new post is created on the forums?

    Like the Silent Hill Siren.

But yeah, a camera that updates every 15 seconds seems to be pretty normal for some places.

Meh, that's how they all are, it's expected. It's not meant for lively entertainment, it's meant to provide a closer connection between the community and the people who are making this game.

That's not a compromise, that's a waste of time for the team compared to the work they could be doing.

Really though? Let us not forget that the Videocasts were fun, interactive and fullfilled the communitys desire for updates far greater than just text did. Likewise with podcasts. I would argue that they probably pulled in a lot of old NS1 fans as well as new NS2 fans. It is something that not a lot of game companies, indie or otherwise are doing and it sets UWE apart from the others.

A polished videocast isn't required either. Get a video camera and shoot it Guerilla-style going around the office and just talking to some of the UWE team about whats going on in the office and what they're working on right now. Everyone talks about "the work that they could be doing" but making weekly posts on Friday take time away from the work they they could be doing. Maybe they should stop those too... the time that they would save would mean we would get our Alpha a couple of hours sooner. And don't say this because I'm not grateful for the fact that they do try to push out weekly updates, and that they make the occasional twitter posts, but there is no reason why they can't take some time to make the odd videocast everyone once in awhile again.

It'd be cheaper to just take 20 pictures with a camera phone and build a gif out of them, then post it on the front page.

If someone did that to me every week while I'm trying to model I would end up digging a spiked trench around my desk by week four.

A live webcam stream can be set up faster and easier than you can type out "Graphics Interchange Format".

You guys do realize this information is already publicly available right? and that a webcam doesn't automagically give away your address?
UWE is listed on several business indexes for the San Fran Bay area, not in the least detailing office address, phone numbers, contact names, CEO, number of employees, map directions, etc. the works. If they were going to get swatted, I'd expect San Fran police would have already seized a copy of the alpha and it would have been leaked by now.
