Now on YouTube, with cool music, and the marine shooting the ceiling is explained (there was a skulk there all along)! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu23zfObtv4&fmt=22
Ohh very awesome, I didn't even realize the skulk walking on the ceiling at the part, was very brief but nice. I know it may be a dumb QUESTION, since you couldn't see the kharaa while he was gone and you were still shooting.. is it possible to shoot through vents? :)
On another note, congrats UWE on winning. So far I find it looks great
The game looks like it has an unusual style in motion.
Not quite like any other game I can place, usually all FPS games either feel like battlefield, doom3, or half life to me, this looks different. Looks like doom 3 but mixed with something new.
Oh and the horrible animations are funny. Early stage games can be very amusing at times.
Here is some constructive criticism from me :)
I dislike the new design of marine buildings. They look proportional, but maybe its the artstyle or the size i don't know. They are just not that appealing.
Also the weapon models look too bulky, similar to that of Doom 3. The weapons in Doom 3 looked too big and crude. I prefer NS1 design over this new of NS2. Especially the pistol, it looks more like a taser?
Now the skulk model. It looks like a monkey on all fours, not an alien.
Things that impressed me :)
Marine movements, look really fluid and functional. (Mo-Cap?) Level design. It looks like it stays true to its predecessor, dark edgy and slick. Very good atmosphere. Gorge and resource tower looked amazing. An improvement from NS1. The marine ability to sprint. Very cool, however im disliking the weapon wobble animation. Hopefully its a placeholder.
ye, I also really dislike the new, "let's make all buildings look like the same cube", I mean, in reality square and rectangular is used a lot in packing equipment like that, but that's cuz it needs to be transported, here it just gets built by the nanite thingies right? so actually the old shapes fit the theme better, plus they were generally far more beautiful (low poly, but the shape rocked)

The crosshair for both the lmg and pistol alignment still is misaligned... Also I found the bit where the marine is sprinting quite funny, I guess his buddy running alongside him hasn't gone trough weapon training yet if you look at the way he's holding his weapon (HMG?) :D and of course the Weldbot and TF reveal!
Gottah love pre-alpha footage, and does my eye spot the TF in that MS?
I can already hear EVA whining: "We need an infantry portal!" :P
the weapon shaking animation while sprinting is just too fast. can be fixed by slowing it down ab bit.
is it just me, but.. couldn't you move your mouse while shooting? it seems like it.
I noticed that the skulks "get in the air" when climbing the last stairs or at the end of a ramp leading up.. I would like that fixed, as in that fraction of a moment you can't dodge or sidestep. thats such a small thing it often gets overlooked.
the skulk walking sounds.. grr...
I don't have much complains about the marines... they're awesome. but I would love to see the new fade and lerk model. what happened to the class reveal series anyway?
This is pre alpha in the video right? I've played betas of professional games that looked worse and more buggy/laggy than what was seen in the video. First off, I have no idea how old that footage is. It looks like a combination of final art and place holder stuff. I'd wait until we see actual NS Gameplay going on before I start to make any assumptions on weather I might like it or not. I still feel like I kinda haven't seen anything, so how can I be upset? The alien models look good, the marine models look good and The resource towers look good. Some of the maps in the video feel a little too NS1(hoping for stuff that looked newer), but maybe because I haven't played it in awhile and can't remember too much. My point is, I guess, that the models are better, and the animations are better. We can't judge how it plays until we play it. How can you not have any faith in these guys when they made(came up with) the first one, which is the one everyone here loves? Surely pre-alpha videos that were or could have been taken of NS1 looked far worse than that?

There is a post where I believe Max showed how his rig was set up including a 3DMark printout or its performance. It was sorta dated back then (a little below average), and it really getting even more dated by today's systems.
What can I say guys, the footage looks amazing, the animations are slick and well done on the award, well deserved, here's to a successful 2010 for ya!
I think the video shows that nearly everything has come together and soon only polish, debugging, and optimizing will be left. Which is still a lot of work but still that might be alpha time.

You'd have to be barking to beleaf that, but before this branches too far off topic, I wonder if you could train a skulk to play fetch :-p
But going out on a limb here, how about a two-player mod based on that, one throws, one catches...
I'm having a bad day, leave me alone, this is the first time i've come close to smiling all day (which should give you an idea just how bad it's been) :-}
