Do I have a virus?

<div class="IPBDescription">Tech support please</div>Recently, my mouse has been behaving oddly. Every so often, it will appear that the mousewheel clicks itself, scrolls a little, and the mouse will jump to a random point on the screen. This even happens in games, frequently switching weapons and pointing my view at the floor.

Once this has happened, there's a short period during which I am unable to use any of the taskbar - mousing over the icons does not make them 'selectable'. To fix this I have to ctrl+alt+del and restart explorer.exe

This is, naturally, very annoying. I've scanned using the free Avast antivirus, which found nothing, and I've run HijackThis, removing any of the results that I didn't recognise as clearly safe. I've even run Spybot S&D, all to no avail.

Does anyone have any hints here? This is really annoying D:

I'm running the Windows 7 RC, by the way.

windows 7 may have a driver issue with that mouse of yours. sure you got the proper driver?

I had spasmic movements of my crosshair in games before I reported (and they updated!) the drivers of my Razer Deathadder. Which mouse do you use?

Sounds like your mouse is faulty. Time for a new one. Unlikely to be a driver issue tbh.

Hook up another mouse and see if the problems disappear... If so, the most likely culprit is the mouse hardware ;)

... unless the two mice use different drivers, in which case that might just as well be the problem.

Thanks for the replies. I've swapped out for an old mouse, we'll see if this makes a difference.

I've removed all but one of the mice that were connected to my computer, the only one left is the one that came with my wireless desktop kit, which I have to keep installed because that's also my keyboard. I have updated the driver for it, however.

Bloody thing still seems to be happening... I don't know what else I can do, really.
