<div class="IPBDescription">Yay...</div>Hey guys,
Love the editor, its awesome as :D

Got any suggestions for it? Post them here.

1: Controls.
You know in Hammer when you press WASD, I think that would be sweet if it worked without holding down the right click, and maybe just have the right click to rotate the camera.

2: Geo lock.
I find that I click and drag geo when I want to do it to props only, is there a way to lock this?

These are only thoughts, don't have to take them seriously ;)

Cheers

Have an option to always display the Properties window (the window that shows up when you "select" an object).

Allow mousewheel scrolling for the texture/prop windows

MIRRORING! Rotating is fun, but sometimes I need a prop/brush mirrored.

I would like a 'focus' option by pressing the 'F' key, so the camera is locked into orbit of whatever is selected so you can look around easier.

Some things that I thought about. some finicky, some useful.

    1: Shift + Drag = Copy/Duplicate
2: Extrude Multiple selected fraces. Maybe a Extrude dialog with different approaches
    3: copy texture face
4: weld verts. dunno if this is automactically done or not. 3ds style select click vert
5: mirror, flips, set buttons for common rotations, 90* 180* etc. Modifiers are cool but not the most practical sometimes.
6: Paste at an offset... copy overlapping can get lost.
7: Constant property panel for entity/props. Shouldn't have to got from the move tool on a light to the select tool to change attributes.
    8: Screencapture/dump
    9: save [+] button ;>
10: toggle views; toggle through persp, top, front, side when in maximize viewport mode, with a key combo, eg; ctrl+tab

    tools?

    ...anymore? ....anyone?

Also, please include an option for us lot who use reversed mouse in first-person mode! I know it might seem like a silly request, but it makes a fair difference to people who are used to it, and for not very much coding effort.

I have some trouble with the pane (mouse 3) and the snap on the grid, but if I choose one suggest :

Make a 2nd undo for "select" separet from other action.

could we have a question/answer forum. im new to mapping and several things are just stumping me at the moment, and i know they are going to be simple..

primarily, how the hell do you change the direction a light shines? ive tried rotating the light itself every which way but this dosnt effect where the direction it shines.. its shining on the wall behind it more than it is down.. as stated, rotating it does jack!

There are two kinds of lights - point lights and spot lights. Point lights emit light evenly in all directions, whereas spot lights are directional. It sounds to me like you're using a point light, which is the icon that looks like a light bulb. Choose the one to the right of it that looks a bit like a torch, you will be able to use that to shine light in a specific direction.

    1: Shift + Drag = Copy/Duplicate
.. definitely need this (at least for props and lights)
How usefull it will by to create hallway with many similar lights on walls .. just Shift and move..
    <a href="http://www.imageno.com/2mzqwji74azepic.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.imageno.com/thumbs/20091124/2mzqwji74aze.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

    3: copy texture face
.. maybe texture painter .. select one texture and paint on walls :)

4: weld verts. dunno if this is automactically done or not. 3ds style select click vert

.. and in editor now can be selected all kind of stuff ny time. It's sometimes unproductive :(
Will be nice to have selecton modifier like: select only verts, or edges, or faces, ...
    <a href="http://www.imageno.com/zn7q30cg8898pic.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.imageno.com/thumbs/20091124/zn7q30cg8898.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

6: Paste at an offset... copy overlapping can get lost.
.. or paste as object is stick to mouse until you press left m. button.

    and many more ..

I'd like to be able to merge faces. Quite often I end up with a heap of coplanar faces going down a hallway from repeated extrusions, looks messy and makes it difficult to widen the hallway.

somebody of you knows the "build" editor? (duke nukem 3d, sw, blood)
it was very very useful to just copy one texture with one button, and paste with another (with the same properties)
there were alot of more useful features which speeded up biulding proccess, well i have so many ideas now after 2 hours of trying the editor that I dont want to write them down here.

I guess many suggestions which we have now are already planned or will be coded next, so i would just suggest: set up a tracker for the public for bugs and change requests.
You dont have to do it asap, just after the next patch / patches (which I guess will bring anyway the most should-have features) it would be nice to have such a tool. People out there have ideas of which your in house mappers maybe never thought about

Really liking the editor so far, but like others have said there are a few things that would make it much more user friendly.

    1. Already said a bunch of times in this thread but shift+drag should copy the object
    2. An option to lock the viewport rotation around a selected object (mouse scroll zooms in and out of object and right clicking with mouse rotates around it)
    3. Some kind of filter (a simple drop down box or the like) so i can choose what i want to be able to select, ie. all, vertex, line, face, prop, light.
    4. Ability to mirror an object

I'd love for the make rectangle tool to actually work... Seems like an absolute struggle to get it to build faces a lot of the time.

ok one suggestion I still want to post:

creating a prop "onto" a surface should align it automatically normal to that face (saves a lot of time). Oh and keep in mind what happens when someone types "0" in the scale options of a texture. For me it was bluescreen (first one I had since 5 years) :)

    Okay this thing is unusable..

Its nice the concept is nice but its WAY to unstable and the tools are not reliable enough and have many quirks...

Need to wait a few more releases before its worth sinking any real time into this.

Could you detail your problems a little more? It could be that there's a straightforward way around it.

No it's not. I said focus and orbit around the object, only focus is there which is Z. Please read my posts.

    -Geometry
    * I would like to be able to use my numpad and the coma symbol instead of the dot.
    * It should be possible to specify the distance you pull or extrude something a la sketchup.
    * Need curve tool
    * Sketchup's "follow", anyone?

    * "Texture Mapping" and similar properties, pressing shift+up/down to change decimals (.xxx)

    -Textures
    * Missing seamless textures besides trims. I'm playing around with a shaft and having a hard time getting a decent visual.

sometimes its not very clear how the editor is working. for example what happens to a face that has 0 length (and or 0 width) ?

what happens to lines that have a length of 0 (due to extrude for example). The line and rectangle tool leave (for me at least) always
a "hole" and a room. Im trying "create surface" of course, all lines are connected (vertices "snapped") but no surface apears (both sides)

a surface is made out of triangles (which you can display), so why I can not create concave polygons? Surfaces seem to me just groups of triangles,
so joining multiple face should result aswell in a (maybe concave) polygon / face -> grouping. ( thats a feature request :P )
So actually, that would be prop generating inside the map editor (see hammer editor)

Sorry for complaining, I like the editor (great potential), but at the moment its somehow useless and too unstable and I am too greedy :)

Is there a button to toggle fly-through mode on/off? I just realized how much I miss the 'z' button for that in Hammer

I'm having a lot of issues getting geometry to form the way I'd like it. Although, I've already managed to figure out what I was doing wrong in a few different occasions, so I'll wait before I start crying wolf on that too much.

Secondly, It'd be awesome to select multiple props, and instantly conform them all to one scale. (Preferably based off the first prop selected.)

On the note of props, it would save a lot of time if when I placed a prop on a face, the prop rotated it's axis to match. (IE, wall mods turning to go alongside the wall, as opposed to 90 degrees off.)

When selecting more than one light, I cannot edit the properties for them simultaneously. I either have to do it individually or copy and paste one light over and over. It'd be extremely handy if we could get that changed so the properties stays up, and functions for all the lights selected.

Other nit picks: Some models are rotated in their preview images so they cannot be seen at all. I can form a list if need be.

When I select multiple coplanar faces for texturing, it'll be nice if i could choose to fit to the selection, or per face. Like the "treat as one" box in hammer editor.

it'd be nice if the selection tool was more hammerish, where you basically have a selection cube that you create, then hit enter to actually select whatever is in it.
