Gordon Freeman is a psychopathic killer, not a hero.

Saving the world was a side effect of his actions. Gordon is just trying to stay alive, killing a lot of people in the process. He never display any emotion and doesn't seem to care where he is or who he is with.

I think the bigger issue is either of them will get steamrolled by Mario who appears to have steamrolled through all his previous rounds.

Apparently the FF VII demographic doesn't frequent that board, or the finale would come down to Cloud vs. Sephiroth.

Gordon vs Link. A hard choice. Gordon has the crowbar, Link has the master sword. Gordon has the HEV suit, link has the Hyrule Shield.

But wait. Gordon has Alyx and Link has... he doesn't really have anyone does he?

    Well said!

In fact I'd love it if instead of just Aliens vs Marines there would be a 3rd option where aliens and marines need to work together to build something... Hmmm.... I feel a MOD coming on ;)

At the risk of getting into a discussion about human nature...

I'm saying that it would be good to play a game that wasn't all about the "them vs us" or "whole world vs me" or in multiplayer games (of which HALO is one of the worst offenders) full of teenagers competing to out-teabag each other! In essence these games are about rewarding the players who are the best at killing/destroying, speaking as someone who has thoroughly enjoyed killing/destroying my way through just about every FPS going since Wolfenstein I can say I honestly do understand the attraction to this!

I'm very aware of the lack of games which encourage teams working together to accomplish/create something rather than destroy, a Yin to normal FPS's Yang if you like...

NS is a good example of a game which rewards teamwork and I love that about it, however the goal is still destruction of an opposing team, and I was suggesting that there could be an NS2 mod for a more positive goal...

    Just my 2 credits worth...

But what does that have to do with Freeman as a medium for narcissism?

Ok you need to follow the idea through... Narcissism and self-centered behaviour are interlinked, the character is in a self-preserving fight or kill everything to save his own skin (as previously pointed out).

I was agreeing with the statement and suggesting an alternative game play idea, ok so the gameplay idea is not 100% on-topic but I thought it was worth sharing... Feel free to ignore me if you feel it wasn't worth sharing! ;)

Maybe an interesting story, when playing ep2 there's that scene when Alex is first attacked by the hunter. You, as Gordon Freeman, clearly see the hunter before it attacks her. She then asks something along the lines of "Did you hear something?". At this point a normal protagonist might have warned his only companion that he had indeed seen a scary monster right behind her. Because Gordan doesn't have a "talk button" I found myself trying to signal her with Gordon's head, looking from her to the spot where the hunter had been. Of course, this didn't work because Gordon is incapable of communicating with human beings and as a result Alex is run through in the next scene and nearly dies.

Also, this is kinda a cruddy competition. They didn't even include several characters that should have made it, and filled in with a bunch of old-school punks.

GameFAQs in many respects has a much better competition due to the sheer amount of traffic and that they pretty much cover every character known in existence. Granted, they don't give shiny movies to watch.

Not like you need them. If you need a movie to remember something about the character then it probably won't get your vote anyway :p
