Steam made an Update that pops up when you log onto steam with a huge "SAVE GORDON" message with a huge picture and a link to the voting website. Gordon's gonna win this one.

While I definitely think Gordon deserves the win over Link *cough*pansy*cough*, I thought that was a really cheap move.

I think it was a smart move, is Gordon was my IP I would definitely tell my fans about it
• KhazeKhaze Join Date: 2006-12-12 Member: 59031Members
So would I, but it doesn't make it any less cheap.

About as cheap as a band informing its fans that they're going to compete in the song contest.

I don't think so. It's on a completely different scale. Steam isn't just some band's website. It's a game portal / online shopping outlet. It by default starts when you turn on your computer... It's more like if a band bought TV ads and billboards to try to win a contest.

I agree with lolf on this one. They're not forcing users to do anything or even offering an incentive. People can vote for a different hero once they get there anyway.

It's more like if a TV network ran ads on their own network to try to win a contest.

Yeah, no question about it now. Even if Valve didn't pull this and Gordon won, I would expect him to steamroll Mario.
• AtoneAtone Join Date: 2009-09-21 Member: 68839Members
I would actually have expected, and still kind of do expect, Gordon to get beaten by Mario. Mario is a household name, much more well-known, and has been exposed to a much wider audience than Gordon. Not to mention all of the Nintendo fanboys.

Gordon is still cooler, though :p

Yeah, Mario's well known... but I don't think of him as a hero. Link is Nintendo's greatest hero. :P

Well if he could beat all that Xen, the Combine and large bugs could throw at him. He can sure as hell beat a little overweight plumber. Heck, Freeman in the mushroom kingdom will be 1 minute of killing and the rest of celebrating the win :P

Freeman in mushroom kingdom would be awful. It'd be all jumping puzzles, which are terrible in first person.

Not with HL1 physics (and gauss gun). HL2 physics would work too, I suppose, with the trick of standing on an object you're holding.

Don't forget actually getting some of Princess Peach (Toadstool? :P ).

On a kinda related note: I was watching some of the Half Life 2 Episode 3 things on YouTube earlier. Seems odd that so much of the game would have been leaked. However I just hope it is less buggy than Episode 2...

We seem to have differing definitions of "terrible" here.

Half Life 1 was what? 1998? There wasn't much talk let alone use of Physics in a game for that time... Let alone one super awesome like Half Life 1's storyline.
