DI : How would you react if canceled

As the title mention it, the question is simple, How would you react if the Dynamic Infestation is canceled from the game due to engine limitation, network performance or something that make the implementation of the DI impossible.

I hope it will be implemented, I see it like one of the (if it is not THE) major feature of the game.

I would be really sad if not makeable, and hope it will be fully fonctionnal.

    Why is it the best /facepalm images always come from TNG?

    Anyway, I myself think it's a really cool idea. But it's superfluous, I mean infestation was already part of the original NS, but it was ingrained in every map. Honestly I think it will look kinda odd seeing all the maps look.... clean, before the infestation spreads. So if it goes, it's no big loss.

    It actually makes sense that the infestation only appears in zones with Kharaa presence.
    Besides, isn't there a whole aspect of the game revolving around the infestation? I figured power grid for rines, infestation for aliens, much like zerg creep.



    I doubt that there would be any engine limitation. After all, it is an engine tailored for the game.

    Yeah Mr. Black, shame on you ^^ , infestation is a key gameplay element (at least I think it should be :D).

    But the real shame goes to the OP for even THINKIN about DI being cut from the game :(

    I would be considerate. I would be understanding and I would show empathy. You have to understand that these features are - who am I kidding, if DI is dropped I'm going to kill this kitten.

    Sorry, it that's just we have no positive news about DI and it's implementation on the engine and used on server and client side.

    Not likely. They prototyped it over 3 years ago on the engine to make sure it would work.

    well the main challenge is making it dynamic...they can always just script the infestation to grow when something is triggered.

    No, they prototyped it on the engine they ended up using, not on the Source engine.

    I would definitely be very very sad. Dynamic Infestation will be absolutely amazing for atmosphere, and <b>extremely</b> creepy for ninja marines. As long as there are no collision / clipping problems with players / structures, this remains at the top of my list for reasons to play NS2. I wouldn't be too disappointed if it wasn't ready in time for the alpha though. But if it's not in the beta... I'm worrying.

    Jeah, the problem would be if it got a little too dynamic and started blocking off vents. You could fix that by making it so it couldn't get too thick, though, and design maps so there's always a little spare room in narrow corridors.

    how do you think the gorges bellyslep works?

    i got an oldsql word 4 ya: no_clip 1 :)


    they set no clip in infestation for aliens and there goes the problem ^^ - while rines get stucked/slowed down in it *make alien chuckle noise*

    I agree, I'd be really surprised if it was removed. It's one of the main features of the game.

    If its removed I ask why. if they dont come up with a good explanation (and replacement) I'd cancel my preorder and demand my money back.

    2)Gorge slide should not be limited by DI.

    The DI video is what got me to preorder the game so I would be kinda disappointed.
    Im confident that they will pull it off, my only concern (I might be wrong about this) is that the DI video was supposed to be done on the source engine so Im wondering if they were able to replicate the same effect on the new engine and in an online enviorenment.

    Feel free to correct me if you have better info.

    They actually did the DI demo on Max's engine(which was the starting point for the NS2 engine) and could not get it to work properly in Source.

    DI won't be removed no matter what. However, if it turns out to be too CPU/GPU intensive, then they may scale back what DI looks like and how it determines where to grow.

    Maybe if the marines won the game you see the alien infestation cover the screen and if the marines won you would see the infestation burning away and the lights of the map increasing to a pure white screen? It be more atmospheric than just aliens/marines win...
