I like 5 if it's going to be a low dmg high RoF and 8 (middle of the rightmost column) if it's going to pack a solid punch.

I wonder if this means that they are changing the current weapons.
Maybe they will keep the taser (a bit nerfed though) and use it as a replacement to the knife. It could for as some sort of short range lazer cutter (kinda like a small lightsaber).

I like a bunch of them. 1, 5, 8, and 9 would all work for me. The key for me is it has to look like it would be useful in killing the kinds of nig nasty aliens in this game, if it looks too tiny I can't see it being much of a use.

Then again this is the future, so if you give us a tiny gun it better work like the noisy cricket in MIB :P

These look like those SPACEGUNS that people in Japan draw without ever seeing a real gun or having a basic concept of how one works. Unless that's the point, and you're pre-emptively trolling the realism nuts? If so, mission accomplished!

What's your problem exactly? can you make or site a better design? Let's be constructive.

It's a gun, it's supposed to look cool and those also look fairly functional, if you don't like it you could just post another design that is better.

Vote goes to number 3 in its extended form. 6 is similar but it looks too small and dinky.

9 is my fave stand alone. 1 is interesting, but looks like a step backwards rather than an evolution to me. 6 and 7 seem a little too small given the girth of the orig pistol.

Mash up pistol: barrel of 9, grip of 8, trigger of 3.

I like most of’em, apart from 4 and 5 as they resemble a real nail-gun too much. Something between 1 and 9 if I could choose freely :>

All this web 2.0 nonsense means I have no idea where to post my actual response, but here, copy pasted from the facebook comments:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->IMO it should look like it's made of steel, with no little protrusions that can break off too easily, you know? Take one of those military sidearms that have been used for 50 odd years in the real world and future-ize it.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

These guys are supposed to be near-future space marines, in our universe, right? So we keep it simple and indestructible instead of adding complexity for the sake of complexity.

Start with something real and established, like this:
    <img src="http://www.rbgungraphics.com/hpsixincol.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

And then tack on LEDs and ergonomic grips and stuff. It's supposed to be a military sidearm, not a toy. The concept drawings look like toys.

If that's the point, and Cory shows up in the thread to let me know that's the point, I'll shut up and go back to the IRC channel. This is just what I'm feelin'.

[don't read this part, just my heart speaking]

I miss the electroboltaserisah :( killing with it would of been so HUMILIATING!!!!

I think it would of become ICONIC too, just like the crowbar for hl and it would of worked just like a pistol anyway (the magic of virtual worlds!) , but that's not really the point here is it...

    [/heart]

    ---

As for pistol concepts I ~prefer~ number 3 (I think its 3, the ones bottom left, i can't quite see the numbers).

I find the others are just stylized for the sake of style and that's not really what natural selection does...

And as for pistol 3. Its bulky, thick, heavy, MANLY! I looks like it would work in any situation and pump those bullets out!! If i was going to war and there was the bunch lying and I had to pick one in a rush, my eye would tell me to trust that one. Its OLDSCHOOL! and oldschool stuff you still find means time has trusted it. Its been brought out by NATURAL SELECTION!

Jolly nice drawings anyway! love the research you are doing NS team, follow your heart/instincts cuz that inner voice is the voice of NATURAL SELECTION helping those with a future! The mind has evil tricks that stales you to the past, to remain in the past!

    Hear who can!

6 or 9 for me, though the pictures are small.

There are indeed 9 guns, check the lines. What I don't understand, is that there are a number of guns with two versions.

So it's more or less official, no taser?

It was a bit confusing at first to determine the gun's numbers, but I think this makes it a bit clearer:

    <img src="http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/6635/71739747.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    I like 1,3,4,9.

3 and 4 look like they're defying the laws of physics and recoiling forwards to show an ejection port or some other part of the mechanism. 1 has the bolt sticking out, like on a C96. And 2 and 5 are either variants or defying physics in another direction.

    That's a bit better :)
I can see myself in agreement with you in there.
A weapon with lots of complicated high tech stuff is more prone to malfunction.

I still like number 6 though, but I wouldn't mind a new design that is more simple and metalic looking to make the gun look sturdier.

I see I'm not the only one who likes 9.
8 looks a bit like the NS1 gun, though smaller.

Voted 9 for its beefy looking simpleness :) Altho I think 1 and 3 have cool looking features as well, they just didn't have it overall.

Is 9 the forth one across the top or the one by its self at the bottom? I voted 9 but I am talking about that one.

Guys, I'm pretty sure the ones with two variants are the deployed and undeployed versions. In other words a cool draw/holster anim like the SG in NS1 right now. So I dont know what DruBo is going on about bolts going in the wrong direction, because those arent firing anims. Plus its the future with aliens and spaceships and PEW PEW lazers! I think the realism police should take a break on that note :P

Oh btw 9!! I want my spaze deagle :D

NS's heavy draw on an Alien level of human technology means that no, for the most part there are no pew pew lasers.

9 looks too heavy for mee, its a sidearm after all.

But yeah, whatever wins (and the devs pick, they are not obliged to pick the winner ;-) ), i'll be happy (ok, except with 4 and 5 ;-) )

The pistols with that have 2 pictures "deploy". Except the first one just shows the bolt kicking back
