It was mentioned in the game investment video, however i haven't heard anyone confirming/denying this??

i believe Max said that they were over 50% of the way there a month or so ago, so it cant be true>?

anyone know more than i do? ( which will be a lot ) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    yea it was recorded at GDC last year, which was March 23-27.

    for those who havent listened.

    so as an investor, you would hope to be not far off .?

    I'd love to hear from the devs on this. From all we've heard and simply the feeling I've gotten from the whole ordeal, that release date sounds absolutely unattainable.

    They'll confirm a release date when they're positive about that release date.

    i would assume a closed Beta, as i remember seeing that the guys that gave money to help out would get to be the beta testers..

    but i would hope if the beta is this summer then early next year?

    This is fairly huge news as far as im concerned.

    Im hoping that there will be an update on the main page or at least a forum post soon giving 100% correct details. Im actually at loss as to why there hasnt been one done already which is the only reason im not fully convinced.

    I've waited so long, I'd rather wait longer than have the game not come out up to Max's and Charlie's standards.

    If I may be alittle evil to suggest that it's a good thing investors are putting some pressure on flay and co to put it out asap. The thing has been alot of time underway with only marginal updates (except for the last 1/2 year). I feel that alot of us sometimes lump it in under the like of duke nukem forever, so that announcing a release date and so soon is a huge deal, can't wait to play it. Would someone new to the constellation get access to the beta as well..?

    I doubt it's the investors putting pressure on Charlie, as much as it is just an inherent practice in Bootstrapping.
    Also, this game has been in active development for considerably less time than most commercial games usually are, and from what I've seen they've accomplished more in that time.

    I think having a general idea for a release date (towards the end of 09) is a great idea for motivation and time management but having something set in stone is bad for final quality and releasing a potential rush job.

    Me thinks this game will need lots and lots of play testing, balancing all these new things will take time.

    yea but it wont be all done in the Beta, so you just have to get it playable and then send it out to get a lot of player testing by the masses imo.

    Wow, Summer '09? I could understand a closed, then open beta from say June - October. Use those few months to get LOTS of feedback implemented before the v1.0 Steam release on Halloween. Even then, it still seems like they're thick in the middle of development, and closer to early alpha stage than any sort of community ready beta. Of course what do we know, maybe their v1.0 focus is to get the basic game released with 2-3 maps and not a lot of fluff just to get it out there.

    I don't think it is reasonable to hold UWE to a summer '09 release. I know that is what all of us want to hear (myself included), but unfortunately I do not think it is realistic. I think that playtesting (especially the new research/teching concept) is especially crucial to the game development. Not only does the new system need to be balanced and "make sense" so to speak; It also needs to be understandable by the community who will be playing the game. I think it will take a few months on top of the announcement of playtesting (if there is a public one) to balance out these features.

    I would expect the game to be released in 2010, and that is more than acceptable to me.

    I think it would be better to focus on when it goes into beta than the final release. Although the comparison might not be fair, remember how much NS changed from 1.04 over the years.

    As Flayra said, if they release something in the summer, it will probably be a beta version.
    A final release seems rather unlikely this year, some blog posts make it sound like they are still introducing new features.
