    Any news is good news. Especially since so many of us have been as patient as we have. It's ready when its ready is only a adequate response for so long. The Development should be far along enough to be setting realistic dates.

    I think you guys are forgetting something, investors. I agree they should take all the time needed and necessary to make as polished a release as possible, but if they are in a meeting with their investors and Summer 09 is tossed out, then they'll need to try to meet is best they can before their funding runs out. I know Decoda, and possibly still Zen of Soduku to a lesser extent, give them a source of funding, but I don't think it's enough to support the company.

    So Summer 09 may not be an internally set date. I don't know, and I'm definitely not rushing the dev team, which I think is trucking on really quickly and efficiently for their size, but I don't think they'll be able to push into 2010 for a release. A pay-for-play/preorder beta would inject some cash flow into UWE, but ultimately they need (and want I think) to get it out the door. I know 1.0 was a FREE MOD, but still understand how polished it was at release, yet how buggy at the same time. Given that this game is retail, I'm sure quick responses from the dev team will keep an major gameplay imbalances and/or bugs to a minimal. And don't forget the instant updating via Steam.

    Once a wise guy said "Patience is a virtue ... " after that he mostly closed the topics for some reason, but maybe that happens if you write this sentence down.
    I have waited very long for NS2 too, but I'm still patient and the community showed the devs a very strong endurance so I guess we all can wait longer, so the devs can deliver us a legendary, awesome, super, uber game.

    Most people are still able to play those cool Halflife mods or Blizzard oldies still these days, they don't care how old they are. So if we want a game that can do this to us again, we can just wait sit back and play another round of NS1 until its done.

    Just my opinion,

    if they are worrying about money and time, then i would expect it sooner rather then later ( beta at least ) however the sucky part about them being rushed is that we wont get as many updates. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    The difference between this topic and your topic is that this topic is about the "Summer 2009" comment from one of the videos as opposed to just asking when the game will be released. That said, if you go to www.naturalselection2.com you see that they're planning to release the game in Fall 09 (Sept,Oct,Nov) timeframe. I really hope it doesn't end up directly competing with SC2.

    This is from the first post. Your own post! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
    And you posted it 5 days after Flayra made a blog post about that "Summer 2009" video.
    locallyunscene's point was, that contrary to those "Where's NS2 I wanna play now!" threads, this one is actually based on investor and developer statements.

    sadly it was a year old investor info.. but still interesting never the less.

    all we can do now is wait.. i would like an update if they found the time, but i have a feeling there will be few of these from now on.

    I was going with this one too sherp, there's a certain value in reiteration. Especially if we can home for a Summer beta, this gives time for tidying up, etc etc.

    @locallyunscene:

    I didn't want to make any point here just trying to be funny somehow ...

    @all:

    And even if it has to directly compete with Starcraft II, SC is only RTS but NS is RTS and FPS which is like double and therefore better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

    I agree with both actually (kind of conflicting) its really based on when the PT/Constie test is released. I'm sure we are going to have more information on that soon.

    Well you do have a point. The NS2 and SC2 fans overlap, and assuming SC2 comes out first, people who are fans of both would probably play NS2 when it does release, then quickly falter back to SC2 after a bit. It NS2 is released first, then fans of both would probably play NS2 until SC2's release, then fall away to SC2 at release. I dunno, but I feel either way our player count will drop. I also feel it will interfere with the amount of new players that would potentially purchase the game. Given the choice between the two, if they're released simultaneously, most will buy name recognition. If NS 2 is released in advance of SC2, at least by a couple of months, I feel more would buy it that normally would not have as a possible "tide me over until SC2". Then once they play it, they would become committed players.

    I'm sure the dev team has taken this into consideration in regards to the game's launch window.

    Thanks dude, must have misread something.

    but as they have released pics to the PR company ( twitter ), things must be wrapping up. have they mentioned if it is a closed or open beta yet?

    I seriously cannot wait for this to come out...

    Hopefully get a chance to beta test it.

    I remember the day it came out, I was waiting for my download eagerly to finish and jump on an empty server with one other friend to muck around... Missed out on the beta for it for ns1.0 but hopefully get to test for ns2!

    I'm still playing it now and again when I have a moment its great fun. But gotta say CO killed NS. Thankgod they arent developing CO mode for ns2!

    I would have to agree, that they better release before Starcraft 2 in hopes to win over the more casual gamers.

    Otherwise many people will think what is the point, since most of them probably already own their casual FPS games, I.E. TF2 and L4D.

    Just wanted to add my enthusiasm for this project. I've never bought anything over steam and thought I never would, but this I will buy.

    The question popped in to my head 20 minutes ago "I wonder if anyone bothered with a HL2 port of Natural Selection", and came looking for Natural Selection news. Then saw that you're redeveloping it standalone to be released in the next 18 months and I'll definately be jumping on this when it's released.

    The original mod was so well done... frantic action with just enough strategy thown in there to keep every game dynamic... the only thing stopping me from playing it today is the outdated engine....

    But hopefully NS2.0 will be pretty up to date as far as graphics and physics is concerned (all I want is ragdoll deaths... makes every game 3x more fun)

    Am keeping an eye on this one <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Definately get some coverage on gamespot closer to the date, with an interview and some gameplay footage of the near finished product.... will garner some serious interest
