Breakable weapons

A brief description of how weapons (for marines) "disappear".

Weapons dropped by the commander (anywhere as long as it is in the radius of an armoury) will last forever on the ground until a marine picks it up.

A marine who dies with the weapon will drop it.

The weapon dropped can be picked by another marine.

If that weapon is not picked up by another marine for some time (not sure how long) it will disappear.

If the weapon is continually re picked by another marine before it disappears, that weapon will last forever.

This translates to holding positions: If you can hold the position the weapon remains, if not, you lose the weapon. This therefore gave me the idea of aliens being able to break weapons with several bites / swipes which I reckon is more appropriate than random "disappearing things". I suggest about 10 bites to break a gun, and maybe less for a welder or mine pack.

It does allow aliens to do something about a marine that is going to spawn with a shotgun or random guns dropped by the commander at various locations that never disappear because no-one picked them up. (a failed shotgun rush for example)

In terms of holding the position out in the battlefield and dropping the gun when dead. This was the general case when guns were dropped, fellow marines could pick them up. If they are dropped in the heat of combat and the alien knows to destroy the gun rather than going for the next marine... This could create a problem for marines that dont kill the alien fast enough. Some balance but not a bad idea to eliminate the 'disappearing' .

Another Idea: Could also be a commander technology to research that brings weapons back after a certain time on the battlefield (say a long time) Another balance issue but another idea that goes with this one...

Just ideas ;p NS2 devs got code/textures (Or atleast they should) for brains right now ;p We got the ideas flowin heh

Hence why I suggested about 10 swipes / bites to give the marines enough time to drive them away but does pose a problem with an Onos present. (Onos breaking HMG's while a group of LMG marines try to drive it away)

Another suggestion: Let say an alien lands a few bites on the weapon but not enough to break it, either the weapon can be repaired (by a welder maybe) or automatically repaired as it is picked by a fellow marine.

What if the commander won't drop equipment in ns2 anymore, because each marines has his own respool?
What if you can't pick up weapons anymore, when they were dropped by a dead marine for balance reasons?
At least the first one is very probable, but noone knows for sure except the devs :/

If the 2nd one is still going to be possible, I'd like to see your core idea in the game or at least someway to give either aliens a way to destroy weapons or to make weapons disappear faster with each drop.

I would also recommend something that makes it possible to destroy those weapons or weaken the dropping of them, when a jet pack dies you loose the jet pack, but you still can run there and safe lots of resources by picking up his gun and welder. The aliens just loose their whole resources if they die in a form and we know most of those forms as they are now are very fragile and it would be nice to see a way to balance those things. I think mines and welders and other support gear is still or should be dropped by the marine commander, because when it comes to buying weapons every marine would put a higher priority on fire power than on support.
