Here's the stream for WWI. Right now the devs are talking about the game.

wow, the announcement they were hyping for a few days is another sequel. I'm so surprised. honestly.

it looks like it might be more mindless fun to play through once, but doesn't look refreshing and new enough to play more than that. then again, I didn't play diablo 2 through more than once either, so I guess I'm not their target audience <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />

Yes clearly the 8 screenshots and two character classes we have been shown is enough to know whether it's refreshing and new enough to play.

Although I don't see how you could only play Diablo II through once. I mean there were like 9 character classes.

There is a 20min-or-so gameplay video aswell, the graphics look much like SC2, same engine? The game has co-op (no?) so I'm already hooked.

I literally, not lying, just installed D2 a few days ago for the first time.

I think it looks really fun!

Of course by the time it comes out I'll be playing NS2...

Wonder if there's a WASD option or if it's still point and click all the way =o

I'll probably buy it just for curiosity and coop. Hope it's better than D2 (open areas = easy to get seperated and kinda boring =3 ). I liked Diablo much more than it's sequel.

On the upside you can choose your gender and class seperately which makes a change =D

I watched the 20 minute gameplay video. They really need to work on the sounds (and the music) [and their presentation style; they did this with Starcraft II and it was just as boring] but otherwise I'm pumped. Deckard Cain's journal on the website is really well done and they got the awesome voice actor to narrate it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I guess you have 9 level 70's in WoW too? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> I think the gameplay video was more than enough to get a taste of the game. 2 classes and their abilities, solo play and group play, loot, etc. same game with better graphics, though I guess that's kind of the definition of a sequel in the video game world.

I have one level 60 which I left long ago. MMOs are completely different from action/RPG games when it comes to replayability with different character classes, because the whole point of an MMO seems to be to grind your way to slightly better gear over a period of months instead of building up a new character to try out all new skills and items.

As long as I can farm Mephisto for 19 hours straight, I'm in.

I always went ahead and wiped out the council members or whatever before hitting Mephisto (although of course I ran away if one of them was MSLE). They drop some good stuff sometimes and it's just one extra waypoint.

The good old days, I can remember it just like it was yesterday...

This one time I was all
click click click click click click click click click

And then I was about to die so I was all
click click click click click click click click click click click click clickety click click

    Those were truly simpler times.

    What server/class?

Come on, let's get this party started.

Initial bit of the video had me feeling very "meh" when Barb was using same two skills vs Ghouls. It was nothing new. Then hotkeys were mentioned, plus the removal of health pots had me a bit intrigued. Next fights showed why. They were way faster and more aggresive then D2, with health being returned as you kill, and several abilities easily used per fight. Also, possibility of actual tactics like those skele warriors rather then wading in? Enviromental interaction was cool, although we'll have to see how useful it really is. NPC interaction, even if it doesn't really change, the way it's portrayed with those little cutscenes makes D3 a bit more interesting. I'd like to see if there's some real class combo opportunities. I believe one class can properly heal if required.

They don't say whether potions have been outright removed or if they just removed the hassle of picking up the dozens of potions the enemies drop and drinking them whenever.
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
I didn't really notice any major tactical difference when fighting those shield skeles... he talks about how they can block lots of damage unless you do the stomp but later in the fight he chews through some of them easily without bothering to stun them =/

I'm also kinda curious how non-barbs are supposed to get past the bridge that collapsed, unless jump is now a free-for-all skill? =3

As align says, they didn't say they were removing pots, but in many ways I wish they wouldl it'd cut down on 'pot fighting' where you just trade blows while hammering the pot button XD

I fail to recall a game where environmental interaction was more than a gimmick in combat. With the exception of the gravity gun in HL2 I guess.

I wonder what kind of plot hole they'll exploit in order to make Diablo come back, because <b>Diablo </b>3 without <b>Diablo</b> would totally suck.

Tyrial got corrupted by Baals essence and then got turned to the dark side, like the hero from D1 did in D2.

    See, its that easy.

Well, for starters they say the skill hotkey bar is where the potions used to be. I also can't see them anywhere else on the UI. Would be a bit weird to have the globe drop and the potions at the same time, if there's also a healing class. Also Gem, I assume the vid is custom made for the announcement, meaning yes, the Barb was set up to be powerful enough to just carve through them, but with a proper play through, you might have to stun them to make sure they go down quickly. This would also explain the collapse of the bridge, as well as the Barb having ridiciously fast mana regen (although I suppose that mechanic could have been changed).

There are books about the Diablo storyline, and they are extremely canon apparently. You'll find Diablo in the afterlife rather than on earth. Or something, I don't care...

I loved diablo 2, never played the first one. The gameplay appealed to me. Diablo 3 looks like more of the same, which is the trend with blizzard these games through. That is not a bad thing in my book though, I'm a sucker for blizz<i>art</i>

Dark Messiah also did it (slightly worse though) but generally I find it pretty dumb. I mean why is it fun to be able to smash that one specific wall that Blizzard says you can smash, whereas every other wall is impervious to damage? How is that better than just fighting zombies normally? Smashing enemies with a predesigned piece of scenery that is only there for you to click on it doesn't make me excited. Then again this is pre-alpha footage of a game that Blizzard has made 2 and a half times and it has been perfect each time, and they've shown with Warcraft II and III (and Diablo II) that they know how to make sequels, so I'm optimistic.

what was I thinking, you're right, Diablo is totally not a game about grinding gear and levels... the devs themselves totally didn't come right out and say in that D3 gameplay video that "it's all about the gear." And there's only different classes to play with all new skills in Diablo, not WoW...

Looked like most walls were destructible. At least those all those fences on the edges fell over whenever he attacked in their general direction.

All that stuff is written by marketing people who probably couldn't tell Diablo from Warcraft or by developers trying to write what they think marketing people would write. You can hear it in his voice that he doesn't really mean it. I've never had to go on 3 hour raids in Diablo just to have a chance to get a drop of an item after killing the final boss.

And yeah Align, I don't mean you can't break stuff, I mean you can't collapse an infirm wall onto enemies in order to kill them unless the developers have specifically programmer that one infirm wall to specifically damage the group of enemies placed specifically under it so that you can kill them with crushing.
