Bingo.
Its not perfect but you don't have a whole lot of time. Lock this place down or die! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> Now find your way across that chasm! Cycle that air lock! Find the components to the water pump and the air scrubs and the generator and....
Weld those doors, set up the turrets at this bottle neck, check the sensors ... They are in the ceiling! Game over man, game over!
<!--quoteo(post=1643971:date=Aug 15 2007, 09:23 PM:name=the_x5)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(the_x5 @ Aug 15 2007, 09:23 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--> /me thinks of the barricade in <i>Aliens</i> that the colonists had tried to construct which bought time but had ultimately failed. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I was trying to remember which ones you mean, got the quadrilogy around here somewhere, going to have to watch Aliens again. Was it the circular layered ones that I remember from a film, when they seal the vents?? I think that’s Alien? I want to see those kinda doors in a vent or two in NS2. I would have most respect for a mapper who can make those vent doors and make them look good. I can't find a pic of them anywhere, anyone know what I mean?
I know its hard to see but in the back ground of these sets looks like the colonists threw together some hasty barricades ... that ultimately didn't work.
This last one I just thought was kinda funny, so check it out!
Yeah I watched part of the films, I was thinking about its the Alien air lock sequence, you know in the vent "BEHIND YOU!", second Pic on your list. There are these really cool doors that almost completely shut, apart from a very small hole. They look really cool!!! Also found this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeJ_HutHtqQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeJ_HutHtqQ</a> (I linked it somewhere else after finding it, so someone will probably have a go at me for too many links, but I didn’t want to send you off hunting for it). I think it sums up everything that the Marines should be, (hard-core, cocky, manly (even the women) and Gun-Ho, with phrases to match! "Get on your ready line Marines! It's Time to Die!", "We're on an express elevator to Hell! Going Down!", "I am the Ultimate Badass!" And "Fry Half a City With This Puppy!") and even gives some cool ideas for weapons, lighting and the commander.
It would be cool to see a grab hand/claw, similar in size to the welder, but like the hands/claws of the robot that Ripley drives when fighting the Alien Queen. It could be given out by the commander and allow troops to pic up objects, like chairs and boxes, that would be used as cover or to get up to vents.
Basicly a gravity gun, right? Not bad, in a story line where nanites and space ships that never seem to have problems with gravity, why not have a gravity gun?
Excellent idea Inked Out. This also provides another avenue of possible research for the marines too, love it.
Thanks CanadianWolverine. Well yeah, I guess, but I was thinking more like a claw that might extend a little way and pick things up rather than a beam of energy. Maybe its magnetic or something. Just so it's not a complete rip off of the gravity gun.

Try to think of the idea more in the setting of a far less linear map, you know, with a vent / maintenance shaft system + hall ways + multipurpose rooms + specialized rooms and so on. Map design and the objects that can be welded placed in the map, will most definitely be up to the mapper.
I've seen hastily constructed barricades in HL2 mods like Zombie Master and Source Forts, and they really only make a moderate difference in your teams chances on a decently made map.

Its a nice idea but it could be heavily exploitable knowing how crafty NS players can be. Would need some heavy testing and a decent counter. Would be a nice touch to give the Onos charge the ability to break barricades like this and send the scrap flying though.

Heh nah I didnt find it belittling I meant about the Siege mode of the game its alot more dynamic than people give it credit, yes its nothing compaired to classic but its still no where near linear. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
As for this idea I can see it working in Classic and Siege but probably not CO. Maybe put in the ability to repair windows or to board them up?? Just something I thought up would be cool...

I always did want to see more sudden suction of the vacuum of space being a ever present threat that could change a map.
Comebacks via baiting the enemy team into an area that is prone to explosive decompression eh? Sounds like an awesome extra to a well-designed map. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
The part of <i>Aliens</i> I'm talking about is where they are talking like this when they are all initially surveying the damage in the main complex building and they come across a makeshift barricade: "It looks like a hell of a fight happened here" "Or maybe their last stand"
