This is a plaster cast bust of beethoven, worth nothing, I just think he's awesome. Prior to it coming into my possession my sister was his owner. She dressed him in clown wigs, gave him makeup and covered him in tape. He is in need of some dignity so I want to clean him up. If I want to repaint him can I get some sort of a spraycan primer and then paint right over the top? What type of paint should I use? I'll give him a toothbrush scrub and try to remove all the tape. Also what about the chip in his nose, can that be repaired by some sort of putty?
I've got no hardware knowledge so why not ask random people (i.e you guys) what to use.

That expression is clearly the result from years of abuse by said sister <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
I think you'd be better off scrubbing it off though because it will still be noticeable if you just paint over it.
I don't know about the chip on the nose though.
Finely sand it down and shape it to make it look as normal as possible, in 100 years people will probably think that was the real shape of his nose.

It's near life size, ~ foot and a few inches tall
I'll try suggestions above - thanks. I think I'll give him a bath first.
way more than elbow grease, paint and stucco or whatever I use.

When you're done cover it with <a href="http://www.kilz.com/pages/default.aspx?NavID=30" target="_blank">Kilz Upshot</a>, which is meant for ceilings but is an excellent stain blocker / primer.
All that's left is to spray it with a decent can of acrylic latex, color of your choice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
The nose can be patched with spackling paste or wood putty: apply, and sand smooth.

Look at his eyes/eyebrows. He looks like an 18th century Super-Saiyan.

Are you wearing it on your head in this photo? Because it would be awesome if you could.
no, but that was the desired illusion. It'd be a heavy piece of headgear if it did fit. I think i'll make my home hardware trip this weekend, get all the crap I need.
