This is a plaster cast bust of beethoven, worth nothing, I just think he's awesome. Prior to it coming into my possession my sister was his owner. She dressed him in clown wigs, gave him makeup and covered him in tape. He is in need of some dignity so I want to clean him up. If I want to repaint him can I get some sort of a spraycan primer and then paint right over the top? What type of paint should I use? I'll give him a toothbrush scrub and try to remove all the tape. Also what about the chip in his nose, can that be repaired by some sort of putty?

I've got no hardware knowledge so why not ask random people (i.e you guys) what to use.

    Painting over the tape residue might make it look old and cool.

    I think you'd be better off scrubbing it off though because it will still be noticeable if you just paint over it.

    I don't know about the chip on the nose though.

    Use goo-gone or any other strong citrus based cleaner to remove what's left of the tape. To repair his nose bump I'd just use some spackling (It's a white putty used to repair dents put into walls) and just sand it down after it dries. As for repainting, just get a spray-can of white or off-white primer and give him a few coats of it. Make sure you spray from a foot or more away so that it goes on evenly. That's a nice bust though, how much does it weigh?

    Finely sand it down and shape it to make it look as normal as possible, in 100 years people will probably think that was the real shape of his nose.

    I'd say in the order of 10 pounds or so. Since it's just a cast it's hollow on the inside.

    It's near life size, ~ foot and a few inches tall

    The nose can be patched with spackling paste or wood putty: apply, and sand smooth.

    no, but that was the desired illusion. It'd be a heavy piece of headgear if it did fit. I think i'll make my home hardware trip this weekend, get all the crap I need.
