Portal isn't an FPS in the same way NS as a skulk isn't an FPS. For all intents and purposes the game IS an FPS, it just doesn't acctually give you a gun to do damage to your enemies with. You've got simple NPCs (turrets), you've got first person navigation, you've got all in character story experience, you even have a thing that shoots into your cross hair, the only thing it doesn't have is a weapon that directly does damage. It IS a puzzle game, yes, but it's VERY much a puzzle game within the structure of an FPS environment.
I'm just starting Ep. 2 now - the TV show style 'plot recap' at the beginning really emphasizes how absolutely nothing happens in these games =P there are zero plot points in the plot recap - just a few action sequences. I'm not *really* complaining - I thought HL2 and Ep. 1 were awesome, and I'm sure I'll think the same of Ep. 2, but nothing ever really happens in terms of plot or character progression...

"Meh, it's okay" "It's not as good as the original" "It sucks" "If they lie long enough, people will believe it"(about how good it is or something) "The only people that say "OMFG THIS GAME IS TEH BEST, IT ROCKZORS" are only peopel who have never played the original"

The only game that people said they wanted to play in the orange box was Ep 2, lol someone said:
"Whats so fun about running around through portals..." towards the game portal....
I really don't see what all the commotion is with this orange box either.... Valve is focusing too much of its time on the smaller projects rather than actualy finishing the Half life 2 story....

first off, don't assume I haven't played TFC, in fact, most people on this forum have probably played TFC (and some of the older ones have played the older Fortress games for that matter as TFC is not 'the original').
Next up is that there is no trick jumping in TF2 as you can't BHop, Trimp, or conc jump. Yes, you can still pipe jump and rocket jump, and the scout can now double jump, but this is NOT what appeals to the TFC crew.
For those that want a new TFC there is always FF (I actually like FF better then TFC my self, but prefer the game play of TF2 too both of them(.

TF2 has better balance between the classes, TFC is much more intense and waaaay faster-paced.
I prefer the maps on TFC, I prefer the classes on TF2. I prefer not having to wait to respawn on TFC, I prefer the laugh out loud moments in TF2. They're different games. I think you've been talking to TFC fanboys, because TF2 is by no means a bad game, it's an excellent game. As someone who's played both variants and who even leans more towards hardcore gameplay than casual or recreational, I wouldn't really rank one over the other. I had great times with TFC, I'm having great times with TF2.

In ep. 2, I just defeated the 2 antlion guardians and I'm 1 grub short of the 333 grub achievement... did I miss one or is there one up ahead still? if I missed one, F that achievement, I can't believe they would make you kill every single grub and not miss a single one =p I need to figure out a cheat code to spawn one more so I can squash it.

If they are still playing TFC in this day and age then I guess thinking TF2 sucks would be their general consensus. All the people who liked TFC and/or also liked TF2 somewhat would have moved on or played Fortress Forever. The population base of your survey is biased.
I have been playing TFC since the beginning and much prefer TF2, so ###### those guys. They are both good games and you shouldn't take what a bunch of people from just one single community for granted without doing your own research, and forming your own opinion. COULD BE GOING WAY OUT ON A LIMB HERE, but you know, whatever.

I think the computer screens are gibberish. I tried turning my resolution to the max and still couldn't read them.
A higher resolution does help a little though, if you're on an LCD; the closer you are to the native resolution, the less interpolation it has to do and - nobody cares. Textures on max would help more, yes.

Frankly, I don't think a couple weeks after a game has been released is enough time for someone who was addicted to it's competitor to objectively judge weather the new game is better or worse. There really isn't even any TF2 competitive play yet, and really, it will be a good full season before anyone really knows the game in and out to the point where you can really say the game has been mastered. Hell, I still learn things about NS from time to time...

What I want next for portal is a "portal sandbox" with objects and components of varying sorts which will allow players to create their own portal environments to experiment in without having mapping experience. Is this wishful thinking?
So, THEM, are there any plans from you guys to release another Portal game, a free new campaign, or an expansion of sorts? I'm hoping by the time I get a new PC and can run it there will be unlimited gameplay due to custom stuff.
TF2 does one thing right, it's an absolutely dead on title in terms of taking what was complicated and frustrating about TFC, and making it easy and fun to pick up as a new player.
I never really got into TFC because I started late and joining games would basically be, spawn, run aimlessly somewhere, get raped. TF2 is different, in large part IMO due to it's interface. I acctually knew where I was supposed to go and generally what I was supposed to do with classes. In fact the only place I think they failed is that I really wish they would do a better job of indicating to newbs that dispensers give more build points though. Generally as a new player the first thing you're going to want to build is the gun, but TF2 punishes you like hell if you make the gun before the dispenser.

Yah, it scrolls so damn fast that I gave up.

I never really got into TFC because I started late and joining games would basically be, spawn, run aimlessly somewhere, get raped. TF2 is different, in large part IMO due to it's interface. I acctually knew where I was supposed to go and generally what I was supposed to do with classes. In fact the only place I think they failed is that I really wish they would do a better job of indicating to newbs that dispensers give more build points though. Generally as a new player the first thing you're going to want to build is the gun, but TF2 punishes you like hell if you make the gun before the dispenser.
Yes, and it's horrible.
Everything THEM said in the developer commentary confused the hell out of me.
