Tell me something to do

<div class="IPBDescription">with 7 computers</div>So I have 7 computers, they are all identical. 1Ghz P3, 512 Mb RAM, 40 Gb hard drive. Right now I've been using them as a render farm for 3ds max, but they don't do that very well. What should I do with them? Also, I don't have physical access to them, and usually won't have it (One of them has remote desktop right now, so I can access them all from college). What should I do? Make a Beowulf cluster perhaps? What would I do with it? Give me ideas.

    Set up a token ring network just for ######s and giggles. Or you could do the Beowulf cluster. Seems as good an idea as any.

    You could have them all run Folding@home. Or farm them out as brute-force password crackers for a price to fellow students.

    Folding@home is a damn awesome idea.

    I'd take one of them and make it into a Quake 1 DM server or something though.

    I say multi-threaded rendering is about as efficient of a use of them as it gets. Using the default renderer in 3ds max won't let you take advantage of them, you need to use a renderer that supports bucket style rendering(not sure if you knew this) such as mental ray, or my personal favorite of v-ray. Even then, 7GHz is not gonna get you anywhere fast, especially when a $200 AMD dual core gets you 5.6Ghz. Overall though, that is probably the best possible method to fully utilize them.

    I just had a good idea!

    Get all of them to you physically, hook up a KVM switch, speakers for each one. Now, go download or install daggerfall and get 7 copies of a thief character on them.
