Certainly was shorter than the last, but that's not a big deal, can't blame you really. Great to hear about the new investor too, money is always nice. Would strangle a baby in its' mother's arms for a chance at that early NS2TR, and still REALLY want to hear if individual artists can contribute to it...
Ah, well. Very cool podcast. Looking forward to hearing the next one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

We made it shorter because the general feedback from last week was that it was too long (and that we rambled too much).
Listening to the podcast now,
keep em coming, they're well good.
New Investors are always nice to hear,
and what are the numbers for ns1?
pdt is GMT-7 yeah?
"I hope nobody asks me about Full Sail or anything like that". Funny thing, I go there and the reason I probably can't go to the chat is because of our lovely eight hour days.
If you really want to become stars in the world of games, I strongly suggest video. Become "gaming gods" like Sid Meier, Richard "Lord British" Garrot, Will Wright, and Chris Taylor. These are developers whose faces I can picture when I name them.
Congratulations on the good investment meeting, do you have your paper work in order?
When it comes to copyright protection, you do have the paper work in order for the artwork and code? I am glad you are considering the "looser" protection, I am one of those customers who even if a game is considered gaming goodness but finds out that the software screws with my $1000+ computer by installing software that refuses to be removed and/or interferes with other programs and/or eats up bandwidth without permission. Please look to the example of StarDock's Galactic Civilizations 2 (which I would also sight for community involvement), I believe I saw numbers that they had increased sales thanks to good word of mouth generated by refusing to use aggressive (see intrusive) copyright protection software. Upon hearing that, I personally went out and bought their game, and that was a really fun game! Too bad the game didn't have a better multiplayer though.
Best of luck on packaging your work for sale. I'm glad you are planning ahead on support, always a good sign.
Keep up the good work and if any investors want to know someone who plans on giving you their money for a quality entertainment product, you can have them call me.
I have been checking the site regularly for updates regarding the tech release for quite some time now, wanting to get a good crack at making an NS2 map. I always figured I'd also apply for the "maybe a level designer" position you have open, but I figured I had time to concentrate on other projects like PVK2 and Insurgency.
But you guys mentioned that you had given out a preview to some mappers on the forum, and the old legends~. Is there any chance you could share it with me also? If you want to see some of my work, please visit my site at <a href="http://www.skjalgmap.com/" target="_blank">www.skjalgmap.com</a>
Thanks~
Haha... i think i got addicted to the background music... lol
I'm glad you've decided to do this every Friday.
Would be nice if its on itunes.
Online-cookie for those who get the obvious video game and comic book reference.
Also: I need NS2TR.
I have so many ideas and so little time, really finding it hard to work out a layout that will work as a concept, a plan and fit all the ideas I have had in it. And I really don’t want to do a standard space station or space ship. Kinda thinking along the lines of the original concept for aliens 3: A monastery in space; although the original idea was a wooden monastery in space. But I don’t think this would fit into the current concepts behind NS. But then again, who knows what is out there in the many planets the TSA explore. Just thinking along the lines of, gothic sci-fi, monastery in space, temples, columned rooms, dark, dank and eerie; basically, what happens if you took a scene from Draculas castle and put it in Sci-fi?? A Victoria horror story meets sci-fi horror movies/games, the best of both horror worlds. Crazy idea? Bad idea? Good idea? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />
Take a look at the Warhammer 40,000 concept art for Chaos Space Marine and Space Marine stuff (the spaceships (Battlefleet Gothic) and the buildings); “it’s gothic in spaceâ€. (I was such a nerd as a kid!) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />
I’ll probably have changed my mind again by the time the NS2TR comes out.
I love the updates! Music makes me drift off a bit though...
As far as copy protection is concerned, you guys weren't really clear on whether you were talking about CP for Decoda or NS2. I'm assuming that Decoda would not be released via Steam and that's why you're concerned about the CP? If you were referring to additional copy protection for NS2, in addition to what Steam provides, I personally would probably not buy the product (as much as it pains me to say that). Valve is already struggling with other companies putting StarForce and SecuROM on products released on Steam and causing a lot of outcry on their forums. TrackMania United was released with StarForce and I had intended to buy it until I found out the Steam version also included it. Fortunately, the publisher decided to remove it after all the negative press and I did end up buying it (after it was removed). I was also very much looking forward to buying BioShock - that is until I found out that it had SecuROM protection included on the Steam release and I decided not to buy it, no matter how good the game is. IMO, Steam's copy protection is perfectly adequate and the games need no additional copy protection causing the users headaches.
Maybe you guys could clarify on the copy protection situation, and whether it was meant for Decode, NS2, or both?
We were talking about Decoda.
I would say in response to your comments that copy protection doesn't have to cause the user headaches; it's just copy protection that tries to be uncrackable that causes (some) users problems. Trying to stop crackers doesn't seem to be very productive to me, since almost every (if not every) application has a crack for it. This is regardless of the sophistication of the copy protection scheme the application uses. However, you can still stop piracy among people who aren't going to download and install a crack, and to do that you don't need to do the invasive and problematic stuff that StarForce or SecuROM does.
Still, it's better than nothing at all.

It's also better than a kick in the balls.

I want to get my hands on that tech release, just something to nibble on while SC2/NS2 comes out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Cheers !
Which is what UW has done before (Famous media blackout of 3.0?)

Same, when I listen to something I have to focus on it while I just sit there. At least when reading something I can listen to music or get it over with and go do something else. A podcast holds me captive to the speed of the people talking.
Maybe they want to hold you captive and slowly brainwash you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
I recon the podcast music has secrete messages in it; one day you’ll wake up and give all your money to UW <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
It’ll probably be the day NS2 comes out, and you’ll probably only have $20 in your account any way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> I know I will <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
something 2 - 5 minutes at the longest.
Sorry. Got a little carried away there.
