    So, how do we get devs to make games for it?
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    We make it so it can run windows games.

    I have had vista sitting on my desk for several months. I wonder if I should go ahead and install it. I'm sure I could afford to sacrifice a very small bit of performance for some sleek-looking desktop toys. even if there's no clear and present advantage to the OS.

    Soul Rider, as much as I appreciate your enthusiasm, please don't make up facts.

    A: DX isn't that much more impressive than OpenGL. OpenGL is acctually a pretty nice rendering suite, especially when you consider how customizable it is.
    B: Neither lunix nor OSX are just starting to adopt desktops now, they have both been doing it for a long time. Infact unix based PC's had desktops before windows was out.
    C: EVERYONE has used tonnes of Windows. You make alot of criticizism to OSX and Lunix, how much of those have you used?

    From my experience the only thing Vista does that other OSes don't do better already is run games, and run windows exclusive software that everyone likes to code for some reason.

    I'm not really up to date with vista... Other than 3D rendering bloat what did it acctually add that XP doesn't have? I assume they fixed the annoying as hell "LOL UPDATE ME" flashing icon that shuts down your computer with no warning by itself... but asside from removing stupid stuff they never should have added in the first place?

    Maybe I wasn't clear, i meant LAPTOP PC, not just a regular desktop. Unless you want to give me pointers on how to build a laptop because I honestly have no idea how to. A desktop doesn't work as a substitute for a college laptop.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    oh, want a laptop for college?

    Buy a macbook pro, install OO on it.

    Very good for productivity. Plus they are pure awesome.

    If I had actual need for a laptop I would be getting a MBP flat out.

    I don't really need a laptop, so instead I am building a new windows box for games.

    or not.

    Hardware != OS Software, for one

    Second... Dell? Dell?! Oh nevermind...

    (You'd be suprised what that MacBook you downplayed in that PM to me can do by the way)

    Third, want to have a gaming machine? GET A FRIKIN DESKTOP! Laptops for premium gamming performance are overtly expensive.

    I have an XP Pro OS running customized gaming desktop. For a laptop I think my next system will be a MacBook.

    I don't use laptops, I don't need 'em, but if I did, it wouldn't be a Macbook. There's no point in wasting that much money. I'm sorry if you don't like cynicism or something, but the fact of the matter is that a Macbook is not going to save you any money no matter how you roll the dice.

    Something revolutionary.

    I wish there was some good incentive for google to make an OS.

    It'd be free, but they'd reserve the right to scan the data on your hard-drive to insert targeted ads. It'd also remain in beta permanently.

    Except your forgetting that DirectX does much more. DirectInput and DirectSound are immensly useful if your making a game as they give you a silly amount of low level access to these things if you want.

    No, that was 100% serious. You appear to have some latent problem with cynicism above and beyond the message it contains; that something is cynical is somehow enough to devalue it in your eyes. I'm not sure where that comes from or why you feel that way, but it's irrelevant. The Macbook costs more money than it ought to and whether or not that's cynical, it's a fact.

    They sell 'em (somewhere) but you're probably better off, dude, getting a Dell. Or some other company. It's a good bit of trouble to build your own notebook computer and since you can't hotswap parts like a desktop, it's good to have someone to send it back to in order to repair the thing.

    You can actually build a laptop with more or less off the shelf components nowadays (see: mini-itx, nano-itx, pico-itx). Of course, you'd need to pretty much build a case from scratch, and find a way to get the battery to work, and end up paying alot more than just buying a pre-built. But it would be easy to upgrade and replace components.
