    Thats too bad.

    Anyway: The NS building are rather big and also function as eyecatchers. So I am suggesting to normal map them anyways. It could really bring out details, like screens and keyboards on the armory or on the proto lab. Alien chambers might not need it, but they should at least be bump mapped to give them a more organic look.

    But hey, I don't need to map it (I couldn't do it anyway) so you just do whatever makes the game look good as long as everything has a consistent theme and look <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    Some player will quite quickly mod it I believe. If there's a normal map you can easily build a height map, there are even tools from NV and ATi to do such things, so there's very little understanding required. It wouldn't be too difficult taking a parallax shader from some ATi or NV presentation or dev session and adapting it to whatever format HL can load(hlsl probably) and replacing the shader used by NS.

    If it's all packed in a consistency checked .gfc file this won't happen(because you won't want to play on servers where players are allowed to turn walls transparent, use spiky models etc.)

    You know that 100 FPS is over the top and unnecessary right? Getting around 40 is just as good. Theres no benefits that 100 FPS has over 40 FPS when it comes to HL2. You only have the potential to waste money on overpriced technology because you steadfastly believe that you <i>need</i> 100 FPS. It is indeed a waste, though, because <u>you don't need 100 FPS</u> to begin with.

    I honestly think that you don't know what you are talking about. 100 fps made a huge difference for me in HL1 versus the 60 and under I used to get. Now, unless there are some drastic changes between the two games that make the fps differences negligible, the importance of a consistent high framerate should still remain.

    More important than raw framerate is stability of framerate. If you can have a constant 60fps it will be undiscernable from constant 100fps. The reason you find 100fps makes a huge difference is because when it dips it only dips down to 80 or 60, whereas when 60fps dips it'll go down to 40 and 20 under the same load. Your "I personally don't want to play any multiplayer FPS game if I can't get around 100 frames per second" comment is therefore justified but only if you understand that it isn't the raw speed that gives you the quality of play you're looking for, it's the ability of the game to utilise the system resources in an efficient manner.

    PLEASE make the flame thrower have some decent range and speed, i'm tired of so many games that make it shoot flames at the speed of smell and it goes 5 feet :/

    I want a HALLWAY ROASTER!!!

    Also, the higher the fps the smoother the mouse movements. Vsync is very good because it makes your mouse run alot smoother when you push over 40 fps. The reason you notice a difference at 100 over 40 is because the mouse doesn't lag behind.

    Also, look @ the newest mod on source: Insurgency. It's very graphically demanding and the maps are huge, and look at the players it's getting.

    My computer runs it like a bag of ######. 1024x768 with everything on low for only 30-40 fps, with dips to 10fps. But you know what? It's fine. I'm glad to be running it at all.

    Also, stop being cheap and upgrade your pcs if you want to complain.

    Thing is, console games are developed mostly on PCs anyway, so in essence there is a PC version of almost every console game already made on the developers servers somewhere. It's not tested for different hardware, but it does exist.

    It annoys me when games manufacturers make 'console only' games, although I understand why.
