<div class="IPBDescription">DEFCON</div>Pretty fun game. Object of it is to kill more people than your opponent, although there is no true winner, because, well, everybody dies. I implore people looking for something different that's cheaply priced to give this a try. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

It's slow, there is alot of buildup and strategy because you have to make maximum use of your limited resources. The actual action usually only lasts for a few minutes once people start launching stuff. It's fun though, if you have patience.

Many hard things look "slow" when you just sit there on your butt watching someone else do the real work. When you're trying to deal with nuclear subs off your coast and fighters scrambled to destroy your bombers and enemy nukes launching near Siberia and the rader station your scout planes discovered and the battle your carriers are engaged in and the position of your airbases, it's anything but slow. Plus you can always just increase the time lapse speed.

But if you buy it from the developer, they get more monies and don't have to share with Valve.

But if you buy it from the developer you can at times get patches sooner, as the beta patches they occasionally release on the forums are not compatible with the steam version.

Just the potential of Valve/Steam going bankrupt in 20 years and not being able to play those games ever again.

Except you could burn the .gcfs to a CD if you're so worried about the Steam servers going offline.

Really? Where? I can't see the offer anywhere on Steam or the developer's site.

How does that help with the "you must be this logged-in to play" signs on all the rides?
Also, for Abra: perhaps you should rethink the expenditure of your money if you wont care what you spent it on in a few years?
Also, the demo is fun, but the fact I couldn't find online games with the demo and the rather slow progression of the game (...such as, someone leaving after 20 minutes and you're only at Defcon 3 or something), prompts my non-purchase. It's got good atmosphere though.
I'm pretty sure that if VALVe went bottom-up, they'd be smart enough to 'unlock' Steam so as not to get lynched by gamers everywhere.
I might have to do some serious self-questioning if I so much as moan over having lost this game after 20 years <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Just want to quash this right now. I still play computer games from 22 years ago. 20 if you count my Nintendo. If I couldn't play Cap'n Magneto anymore I would probably break down and cry. Or Beyond Dark Castle. I would literally cry.

Don't count on it. If Valve went bottom-up, who would you lynch?
In short, Valve.
