a few years? My sense of scale might be slightly off, but I haven't even <i>lived</i> twenty years! Also, I would care, I would know that I had a good time with it back then? Also, the kroner I spend on a game is hardly any money when spread over 20 years. You come off as blameful, over the fact that I don't hold a lingering, forced respect for everything, just because it is 'old'.

Well, bring it down to 10 years then; you must have an NES or SNES or something from around 10 years ago (...Half-Life, Deus Ex, SimCity 3000, AvP, Starcraft, AoE2, Fallout 1 and 2...any of that stuff?), that if someone just threw out and you could never play again you'd be pissed off about it (and don't break out 'zomg ROMS' or something either, because then you're just dodging the problem in the first place).
I'm also thinking you don't recognize how expensive a hobby video gaming can be. Imagine if you've got like 30 games from the Valve catalog...even if they're not the full priced once and you simply take $20 a game, that's 600 spent on games. That's a bit of an extreme example, but the point is something that you paid for is no longer available to you.
I don't know how I sound blameful, but I do question your expenditure of money if you know you wont care about something at all in the future, why do you bother getting it now? If you just throw money at things that's your perogative (I've seen enough people that buy games and movies and then don't bother to play or watch them...ever), but think about the things you like and then wouldn't have access to.
You've chosen a hobby that can easily cost you hundreds of dollars/kroner/euros per year, which for most people isn't a small sum.
(Also, I am only 21 years old, but I recognize the importance my NES (and to a lesser extent, my Atari, since I lost it somewhere) and my old games, that I'd be slightly peeved if they suddenly went missing.)

Your answer can translate directly to; You shouldn't see movies in theater, cause in a week you can't see it again (without paying another time). How is the fact that I appreciate having played a game, but not wanting to play it again a bad thing? I had a nintendo 64 for many years, all my buddies did too, we all had great times getting together and duking it out in goldeneye, and later perfect dark. But I threw it out because it just took up space, when I started focusing on PC gaming more. I played it a couple of times, but it didn't really make me sad when I could not play it anymore. And that is not because I didn't care for it, or enjoy it much - I did!
And dude... my one-line comment was more ment as a way you could reflect on yourself (yourself not equal You in particular) and chuckle over how in this world with technology breakthroughs every day, something old still bring joy.
Please, I don't want to get this into another heated forum roosterfight. I don't agree with you, but might just as well because this really isn't the best medium for discussions. Also, I have Half-life ofcouse. And I had starcraft, and AoE2. But as much as I enjoyed them back then, I enjoy newer games more, when I have the choice. My nostagia is won over by my interest in gaming progress, timeline wise
Played the demo, was fun for a while. Didn't really do it for me, mostly cause I didn't have anyone else to play it with.

I bought this game even though I am on a very fixed income (fixed at $0 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />)
It is pretty cool. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

If Introversion goes out of business, this game will be unplayable whether you have the Steam version or the vanilla version. Now, which do you think will go away first: Steam, or Introversion?

Untill some one else puts up a matchmaking server and releases a fix that points to the new server, and has a NOCD/NOSTEAM crak built in also so that all is nifty and dandy.
If your in the UK and near an IGUK lan gaming center, on saturdays there is a £50 draw for people who play in the DEFCON free for all competition, as well as a chance to geto the final in 7 weeks at Omega Sektor in Birmingham where there are around £10k of prizes.
Im 24th and it looks like ill get to goto the final!
Tip, pick who you kick out an alliance and agree it with the others first.
