Dynamic weapons/armor

In an old game called "Unreal" you had the possibility to find certain power ups to improve your standart gun
i think this would be awesome for ns2, too!

mayb Arms Upgrades trigger this and than the weapons change, same with armor ups and the armors...

i'd like it even better if this had some influence in the games mechanics, instead of a damage boost, you get a little more dmg and you can pick certain upgrades:
- FMJ rounds: ingonre the alien armor for a certain %
- hydroshock rounds: % chance to blow lower aliens back
- explosive rounds: more dmg to structures
- akimbo: uses 2 pistols
- bigger mag/faster reload
- burst mode: spreads multiple bullets

this way the pistol is rather bad at the start but okay later when your primary is empty

same way with armor:
- light materials: % speed gain
- acid hull: % to dodge effects from infestaion/parasite etc
- gas mask: % to dodge gas attacks (like HA now for lerks)

i'd like that you could play your style without harming the coms res

discuss!

NS might lose something concerning teamplay, when you let ppl choose their own upgrades. More rambos ftw?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Are you really suggesting power-ups for marines?

Ohh! How about the shield power-up that makes you invincible! Then there can be active camouflage! Let's throw in heavy machine grenades too, just for good measure.

Ok, I'm done mocking the idea now. But if we DID somehow throw these in, aliens would need some way to cope with the fact that they're being thrown around, facing more firepower, their armor being ignored, and gun upgrades. Oh, wait, there isn't anything to counter that except to make a new, ridiculously cheap alien life form. Right.

Why so cynical and jaded? Dynamic infestation is already going to mad on change how NS2 is played compared to a half-life mod.

You are being WAY too harsh on this idea. I didn't get the impression he was suggesting taking the control of upgrades away from the Commander. IMHO, Dynamic Weapon Marine Platform is the way to go. Let the Commander upgrade in more branching trees like this, heck, even let him pick the specific marines who get this or that kind of upgrades/weapons/armor so that he can develop classes within fire teams.

This is a good idea and has plenty of merit.

Percent chances to do crazy stuff every hit isn't a good idea, in my opinion. More than likely, this will just cause balance issues. That's the point I was getting across. Dual pistols? I'm all for them. Stuff like that I'm willing to accept. Those upgrades just seem a little over-the-top.
