Converting one wadfile type to another

I'm trying to get Doom 2's textures
As the title and description says, I'm trying to figure out how to get the Doom 2 textures out of the DOOM2.wad. Wally doesn't recognize the file, probably because Doom 2 uses the .wad file extension to actually refer to its maps...Does anyone know of a program or method of ripping/converting these textures?

    http://www.sbsoftware.com/ maybe? That might work.

Get yourself the program named "Wally", export the textures from the doom .wad, create a new goldsrc wad, add the doom textures to it. Simplest solution.

Or use textures from one of the retexturing projects (look on the jdoom page).

Doom1/2 engine IIRC stores all assets (textures, sprites, sound, maps) in wad files. To extract them you need a tool like Wintex or Deutex. but the textures are probably so low res they will look ish in HL, unless you are going for a retro style.

I was going to rebuild my favorite Doom 2 map in Hammer, I just needed the textures.

I have the jDoom detailed textures, do you know if those might be better in NS?

    Edit:

I just tried running DeuTex on Windows 2000 Pro...the DOS window flashed up and then vanished just as fast. Any idea what could cause that?

If it's a dos program, you'll probably have to enter in flags and what not. Similar to the HL compilers.

To see what it spits out, you'll need to open it up in a DOS box instead of double clicking it.

On Win2k, you're better off using cmd instead of command (START > RUN > cmd > *enter.)
