aliens get bigger?

<div class="IPBDescription">with each kill?</div>maybe u can tell how many resources/kills an alien has like a skulk with 1 kill maybe small and a skulk with 5 kills large then normal so you give variety to the <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skulk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::skulk::" border="0" alt="skulk.gif" /> and so on and so forth maybe a wider / faster <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lerk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::lerk::" border="0" alt="lerk.gif" /> ? and a gorge who likes to build maybe when he gets points he gets fatter? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" />

So... you want to punish people for doing well?

hmm interesting idea, its kinda like the skinny mod for that old unreal tournament game, the more kills players got the fatter they got, and the more they got fragged the skinner they were. It was quite funny seeing skinny and fat people, but the idea of that mod was to balance out the gameplay - players with more frags were fatter giving the skinny less skilled players something bigger to aim at <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I think its a great idea, but im afraid that the more skilled players won't like it because their scores will plumett once they get a bigger skulk.

What you would need to do is when they get bigger give them also more armour and hp to counter balance the size disadvantage

a skulk that grows per kills could be interesting

    Spawn as vanilla skulk
at 5 kills/no deaths your the size of a large dog
10 kills/no deaths the size of a leopard

    dying resets growth

Isn't this very hard to implement in Source, involving model-interpretation-level code changes?

Actually, if they gained more HP and armor per kill, I think this would be a cool idea. It would reward players for being able to play a certain role well. They might be easier targets, but they'd be tougher to kill. People getting skinnier, however, I'm not really for.

This would be very hard to program for a low reward. Increased hp is not bad though as it would be a good reason to stay skulk. If you got larger then it would mean that you could be hit more and it would be harder to hide.

the idea sounds great, but there must be a limit for growing!
but what is, if you die?

what happens when your totally owning, do you stop fitting down hallways?
  • SheepeSheepe Join Date: 2003-12-22 Member: 24650Members
Yes, you get trapped, and then you get all shotted up and die... Bleh x_x...

I don't know, probably wouldn't go that far.

no thanks. this will only promote rambo's.

why would people bother gorging and getting res, to spend on bigger lifeforms later, when they can just rice up their skulk after each kill?

also, a good fade will currently get at least 30-50 kills in an average game, can you imagine what it would be like if it got more powerful after each kill? yikes!

and does this mean my grenade launcher will slowly upgrade to nukes or something? this would be overkill.

if you want to be rewarded for each individual kill, go play combat.

No, its kills without deaths. It makes you a bigger target, and its only a minute enhancement

yeah but most good fades blink in, kill, and blink out. they repeat it over and over and rack up the kills in no time, without dying.

they are hard to kill as it is, if each of those kills gives them even a slight increase, they will be impossible to destroy.

this will only reward the good players, and will not promote teamwork. maybe if the team as a whole got a slight increase for every 50 kills or something, this might be feasable. but i think the system is balanced as it is.

maybe a skulk which died long time ago and killed a lots it gets some "damaged skin" model or something, but not size change

I'd have to pass on this...

Every game that's ever had an implementation along these lines has created an arms-race system, in effect.

Everybody will try to race to be "top dog" so they can completely own. Pretty much whoever pulls away first will start to have exponential growth, which isn't very fun for the other team.

For examples see Extralevels (to a degree), WC3 mod for CS, and any RTS maps where you level up by killing the other team.

Hey people. Growing is not a GOOD thing. o_o Don't you agree that a smaller alien is harder to hit and is easier to manage. So in other words the game would be punishing people for doing well if the aliens would grow by each kill. ._.

the aliens don't bite the marines to eat them and sustain nourishment, they bite them to kill them, it'd be stupid to imply that this intergalactic war was fought over something as petty as some hungry skulks looking for a munch.
  • Cosmic_FlareCosmic_Flare Join Date: 2007-03-07 Member: 60276Members
This is kinda' dumb... no offense though.

The game would be so much tougher for marines.
Keep NS the way it is. If this gets in NS2, I'm not playing this game anymore.

This is the only good point I've seen in this thread to be honest. It might be interesting, but you are right, that is side effect of this idea. It might be fun for awhile but then you really have not a shot in hell of comeback and it would promote rambos. As cool as this idea seems at first, it would cause negative side effects. Sorry.

However, it might be a good idea to make an aesthetic change when you start owning. Something which doesn't affect gameplay but makes it fun. Ideally something others can see but you can. Like your eyes start glowing more as an alien or some damaged looking armor as a marine. Soemthing like that is a good idea.

Merkaba has the best post though. lol uber skulk! AAAH RUN AWAY RUN AWAY!!!

i think more than that they sould change ther look... an alien with carapace should look more armored... an alien with celerity should look more aerodynamic... etc... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
