When Fade's Blink... Fade's Blink

A simple idea, remember back in the good old days of 1.04 and down when the Fade's blink attack used to make them teleport rather than "fly"? My idea is to bring back this Teleport and make it a toggable function of whether you want to Teleport 1.04 or 2.0 and up style. I figure this could easily be mapped to a key and the difference in teleport styles could be useful. For example:

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->

                |          |
                |          |
                |  x    x|
                |     x   |
                |  x   x |
-------------           ---------------
F                                          Fade Destination

--------------------------------------<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

where x are Marines and "F" is a fade. The fade needs to get to the destination and using a "teleport" of 1.04 style would be much more conventional than flying across and revealing his position. Or in the event of a rather large room where the fade needs to get from one side to the other while avoiding bullet fire. Those are just some examples I'm thinking of off the top of my head.

EDIT: Sorry for the double thread, and the diagram didn't come out at all like I drew it =/

    I don't know.. I could make fade far too effective. Perhaps making the fade teleport only a metre or two in front of itself would be good, tapping the +movement button would result in very fast movement.

    in 1.04, it was well balanced becase

    A) if you weren't careful, you wound up INSIDE someone/thing (eg, wall, player, building, ect)

    B) It used a lot of energy

    It was also well balanced because:

    C) It was buggy, and failed quite often, especially if you weren't crouching.

    D) Was rather useless for hit-and-run more often than not, although acid rockets made up for this much.

    Relying on bugs to keep something balanced (blinking into a wall, or blink failing randomly) is not acceptable, by the way.

    Bunnyhopping?

    Search the forums for tankefugl's blink mod and check it out. It's pretty freaking pwn.

    I guess that is technically correct, although considering the restricted extent of curbing it (Only marines can't do it, "170%" speed cap), it's been 'fixed' enough to be considered a feature =P

    Blinking into walls and nowhere, however, are definately not features (or else the 3.0 blink would do this, which would suck =P), and are terrible reasons for a finalized blink being balanced.

    Plus, think of the newbs!

    This blink mod sounds interesting, unfortunately the download link in tankefugl's post is dead =(

    I really did enjoy the original blink. I'd love to see it return, bug-free. Just balance it by adjusting energy use, or possibly add a slightly disorienting effect (for the fade) as it appears from a blink. (just for a second)

    I find this a good idea albeit its existence before.

    I'd say this should be a type of addional special ability for Fade.
    A type of emergency blink with a cooldown timer or any other heavy penalty.

    Maybe have the fade unable to use any abilities after "phasing" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
    until it has returned to a hive to regain its strength?

    Think I see this to RPG'ish though

    Well i guess you can make the fade "fade out" when the player is actually using blink.
    holding down button etc.
    make it for 25% visible, but take enhanced dmg i dunno.
    but teleporting did more harm than good.
    getting stuck wasnt fun..

    it would be fun if it worked like the d20 spell [<a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/blink.htm" target="_blank">clicky</a>]
