Ahh, two of my favorite moment in 1.04 were as an alien in Bast.
1. Marines have 2 hives locked down, with turrets and everything. I sneaked into marines base through the vent and into CC (1.04 Marines have to use elevator to get to CC). I made 2 DCs and 4 OCs right next to the chair. The commander came out when OC began attacking the chair. He died, several attempts by marines to reach the chair prove futile. My OC destroyed the chair, aliens won.
2. Marines was about to have 2 hives locked down. They got a PG and many turret at refinery... of all places. We have two very skilled lerk keeping them occupied at refinery. EVERY single marine was at the refinery. I sneaked into the marine start, killed the pg (no one noticed), proceeded to kill the commander coming out of the CC, at that point aliens reinforcement arrived. 3 of us totally decimated the rine spawn while the virtually all marines saved commander were at refinery with no PG to get back to base.
Ah, the joy of knowing you single handedly turned the game around.
My favourite 1.04 moments were those times on ns_caged where you had sewer hive which marines couldn't kill because they had to try to siege it which didn't work very well, while having both vent and gen hives locked down. Running around suiciding at marines you never got near was so fun!

seriously man, getting in the inner circle of HAMPTONS was the best thing that ever happened to me ns wise. godly players, most epic games, completely rediculous server. only thing bad was trying to get in it.

No, 1.04 was a horrible horrible version compared to every version after it. People were just new to the game and can't see past their glorified memories how how cool the game was the first time they saw an onos.
Bullish. Sure, 1.04 had its bugs, but it was a hell of a lot more fun IMO. It was an entirely different game than what we have now. Hell, I'd go so far as to say that you can't even compare 1.04 to later versions because they litterally aren't the same game. It'd be like comparing Quake3 and WoW.
I think i started with 1.04, it was around jan 2003 all i remember was using gamespy to join servers, which were numerous and always friendly towards n00bs, the sK (2003), K&B and [ERA] (2004) clan servers especially, games lasting for several hours always fun, i still prefer a few of the old maps over the revised ones, hera, nothing, eclipse and bast. I think my greatest memory was on a game of hera i was comm and about 2 hours into the game an onos came into the spawn and got on that ramp to get up to the comm chair and i was all alone as my rines were at the archive hive !, so i beaconed and they killed it and moved out again, exactly what was so great about it even hours into a game it could still be undecided <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />.
Seems everythings gone really downhill from then, games taking 10 to 20 <i>minutes</i>, emphasis on "skill" over teamwork whether intentionally or not, servers being pretty scarce these days as well, i just needed a moan as i played the mod alot in 2003 & 2004 and miss those days immensely, from what ive read i'm not alone in the slightest, i still play though as its as addictive as ever.
