I would not ditch the medics too soon. The developers know about the problem and there is going to be a fix soon for sure.

Either they make them give the same amount of EXP as HP is restored ( like its done with damadge ) or they allow the medic to use the medkit twice for full XP. So maybe it will pay off to be patient.
Remember that the Medic is a military class that gets one 150 XP skill for free... Its not soooo bad.

All you have to do is find medkits and team up with some guy until you have 75 XP for basic firearms or melee and you are in.

@Supernorn: how many AP do you have? when I'm recovered I would accompany you to a hospital if you want to search some medkits?
edit: I have 4 AP currently btw ...

well I'm Firefighter norn now. Got myself back to the police station after hacking at a zombie for 19 XP. (yay) then spent most of my AP searching the building, where I found a shotgun, pistol clip, flare gun, and shotgun shell.

I have about 5 AP left. There is a hospital nearby but I might leave it till later before looking for medpacks.

what can be found in the various buildings? where would one find a flak jacket? and how much damage do they absorb from zombies?

Flak jackets can be found in police stations. They absorb a certain percentage of damage inflicted; 20%, I think. Also in police stations are pistols and shotguns (and their respective ammo), and flare guns.

I seem to remember killing a zombie with a flak jacket; shotties did ~8 damage, pistol did ~4.

I've found med kits and newspapers in hospitals.

Schools have books and spray cans.

Warehouses have wirecutters and (I think) crowbars.

Fire Stations have fireaxes, amazingly enough.

Pretty much. The yahoo mailing list has a full database on what and where such items can be found, thankfully.

A trick some players like to do with their zombie chars is to start off as a Cop, put on the Flak Jacket, and jump out a window. Instant zombification with a flak jacket.

Of course....I believe this makes them slightly weaker zombies. Can't tell unless one of my chars are dead. However the description points to 'vanilla' zombies being tougher, oddly enough.

EDIT : Oh, and newspapers can be found anywhere where people can sit down and relax. In other words...almost everywhere.

Vanilla zombies start out with a 10% hit bonus to all non-weapon attacks. With a vanilla Zombie bite starts at 20% and hitting starts at 30%. I would assume this means human->zombies start with 10% and 20% respectively.

maybe there will be fences to cut through in the future - I bet whatever they're used for hasn't been implemented yet...

They already cut fences. It's just that nearly all fences have been cut by now.

It's fun because game elements are added during play, changing the entire skew of the things, for example brain rot and barricades, they're greatly changed the game (barricades i mean) because now when humans group up they're not just making a big smorgasboard for the zombies, they can defend properly. because by the time the zombies smack down the barricade, they're out of AP, then when the humans go again, they rebuild and lay the shiznit down on the zombies outside.

(also i have 55% chance to hit with the pistol now, i am so freaking gonna own.)

Its all based on luck really. You should find something eventually.

Here is where I must ask: Do zombies know where you go if you attack them and leave? And also, what's the most damage a zombie can do? My cop seems to be...under attack <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Plus he's surrounded on 7 sides by at least one zombie (two have 4 and one has 2). I don't think he will survive.

He's dooooooomed, dooooooooooooooooomed, I tell you.
