Well you cant just learn it like that, it takes a bit of practice too.

There was a website showing everything but I forgot it....

Bunnyhop website

Yes.
With walking, you get 290 base speed (you can see it with cl_showspeed while sv_cheats is on). Maximum speed while bunnyhopping (this is without celerity) is somewhere around 520 (units/second). So, yeah, abotu 180% - significant

is it like..... "D" -> mouse left -> jump -> "A" -> mouse right -> jump?

no, you have to strafe to the direction you are moving your mouse to
aka

you move your mouse left because you do a left turn-> press a (strafe left key)
and the opposite for right turning and starfing

you always strafe the direction you move your mouse to
::edit::
and hold duck if you practice as skulk so you wont stick to the floor, or start praticing as gorge !!

So it will be like....... "A"->jump->mouse left->"D"->jump-Mouse right. is it?

i think for the beginning its easier if you use

jump+ A and mouse-left + jump + D and mouse-right

try to change direction inbetween jumps
later you can change direction anywhere between the jumps, but for now change starfing only when you touch the ground

but basicly, yes, you are right

and dont use the forward key, it wont work with forward

Where abouts are you from? If it's anywhere in the EU gimmie a PM on MSNM waller@email.com I'll try and give you a hand, bunnyhopping is so easy once you use mousewheel btw (Well, the timing the jumps part)

bind "mwheeldown" "+jump"

Actually yes, you can use the foward key. Maybe not to get the MAXIMUM speed, but you can use it. I'm a decent bunny hopper (i'm usually around like 480 speed), and everytime I land, I tap w very quickly.

If you wanna become the best bunny hopper, ignore this advice. But you can use w and still be a decent bhopper...

Sounds interesting, would you mind to elaborate?

that's like the stepping stone to be able to bunnyhop correctly without using forward. You use forward first for a while because it's easy but it's also can be a decent way of bunnyhopping. Once you're good at that, I recommend learning the strafe only way.

Guys, I'm not completely sure here... But I've seen tests run in the past, and this is how I do it...

So don't rip my balls off if I'm wrong here but here is what for the last 5 years I have known, after having it been proven to me, as bunnyhopping (HL & any HL mod)

Move forward, but keep straifing and jumping at the same time in alternate directions, so you'd be moving like this:

^
/
\
/
\
/

As soon as you land, jump and straife in the opposite direction, whilst moving forward.

If this is not the max speed, this definately makes you go considerably faster than before, and the reason I use it, is because it's a hell of alot simpler, and in my oppinion yields the same results.

NOTE This 'method' does not involve turning your mouse, but by twisting your direction does not seem to make a difference, except stop the boost if you land sideways to the direction you were originally moving.

Added proof?

On surf maps on CS, say you hit a Left turn, shaped like this: _| - If you hopped off one panel using 'left straife' (This direction: /) And hold straife left when airbourne, and then press right straife again to stick to the new panel ( | ) you seemed to gain a boost, showing that straifing in alternate directions whilst in the air and upon landing does grant you a speed boost.

MY OWN TEST

Okay, I've just done my own test using cl_showspeed 1

Baseskulk speed: 292
My BHOP Skulk Speed: 400-552 (digits change to much to get an exact reading)

Now if it's true that the 'correct' bhop makes you move at like 552+ then I'd still stick with my known version as it requires much less effort, and can be picked up in a second, you also remain facing the same direction, allowing you to 'bhop' and fight at the same time; Never losing sight of your target.

If anyone has an arguement to put forward against these results then please by all means, but as I say; I believe my method yields the same results, at MUCH less effort.

...Damn, experimenting is fun!

heskey, when doing speed tests use the groundspeed rating, not speed. Speed accounts for vertical speeds, groundspeed only measures horizontal speeds. A good Bhopper can hold around 530 groundspeed.

Okay I'll test it out now, but can anyone come forward to me and say; Yes, that's a bhop, but by using that method you cannot gain max speed. ??

turning your mouse makes you go fsater, try running around in circles turning your mouse quickly and compare it to a slower one

However Tjosan, I do gain almost as much speed as bhop but with a much easier method.

The speed is a marginal line, using my 'bhop' I've never been taken over by normal bhoppers.

What kind of "Bunnyhoppers" Are you playing with?

I find it best to do the normal Bhop + Movements with mouse with added "BLAM" I kinda shake my mouse if i don't have enough room to move fully, corridors etc and i've been complemented on my bunnying quite alot.
I've tested it and i never drop below 500 realisticly.

try bjumping without crouch, it's well hard :o have to press forward everytime you land too
• HeskeyHeskey Join Date: 2005-07-31 Member: 57246Members
Using my method I always used to crouch-jump and straife at the same time, but tests last year proved this does not increase speed
