I've fallen asleep standing up, albeit leaning against a door! Thats how easily I sleep if I have to!

I cant sleep on upper beds I have a evil unconsious tendacy to roll out if it doesnt have anything blocking. One good thing was that I didn't feel much, the pain was like supressed by the sudden awakening.
I sleep either on side or on my chest with my hands under my legs (cause it's warm!).

As said before how do you sleep with all those cords in you, it's possible they might be pulled out right?

I luckly sleep in the correct position on my side. But I have no problem sleeping on my back or on a sofa, floor etc. Sleeping on the belly is another thing its just to aquard to me.

When they do the sleep study the 20 electrodes are stuck on you, and they do a good job of securing them. During my stay a couple of them developed a bad connection, and the sleep tech had to perform reparations. It **** me off because I was like SOUND asleep, and the door burst open and the BRIGHT effin hallway lights blasted me right in the face, and I thought Armageddon was here. I like to never got back to sleep after that.

Yup, and that can be a major factor in older men having heart attacks in their sleep.

Ballina has a home! I went ot see my neighbor lady, and told her my predicament with the friggin safety pins coming undone and stabbing me in my sleep. SOOOOOooooo....., she sews a pocket, in perfect position, on the back of the tank top for Ballina, with a little velcro tab at the top of the pocket to keep her in her place.

The sewn on pocket worked a lot better than the hanging sock with the jabbing safety pins. However, the pocket was a tad wide and allowed Ballina to wander some from side to side.

SOOOOOooooo....., I had to take another trip to see the neighbor lady.

    Buh bye Ballina .... ... .. .

The Pulse Oximetry I had Monday night while sleeping has revealed the positional therapy had no effect. My average saturation was 86% (below 90% is abnormal) and 38 times during the night saturation dropped below 90%. What does this mean, you ask?

It's already been established I am a poor candidate for a CPAP as I've had LAUP. So the doc has ordered an Oxygen Concentrator, to which is attached via tubing a nasal cannula (you know, like the thing you see seniors wear hooked to an oxygen tank, but mine is for sleeping only).

I sleep with oxygen for 10 days (I ordered it spiked with laffin gas - request denied) and they run another Pulse Oximetry. Then 2 days later I see the pulmonologist for a complete report.

Gawd, all I want is a friggin decent night's rest .... ... .. . Oh yeah, the Oxygen Concentrator converts home air to nearly pure oxygen if you're curious, and will cost me $47.00usd/month - CRAP!

47 dollars a month for a sense of heightened senses / euphoria sounds like a good deal to me actually.

Eh, I kinda just fall asleep in whatever position. But wakeup in incredibly funky positions. Sometimes I'll wake up and think that my covers are all tangeled around me (which happens quite often, and it makes me MAD), only to realize that it's actually my pants that I'm trying to bust out of.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is relatively common (an estimated 12 million people have it as I recall) and causes one to stop breathing, or even have their breathing slowed/restricted during the course of sleeping. The breathing problems are caused by your airways (at the base of your tongue) collapsing while you rest. This can be caused by several things

obesity

soft, droopy soft pallete (area where your uvula is located)

posterior enlarged tongue

I had LAUP (laser assisted uvulapalatoplasty) 10 years ago to reshape the back of my throat. It helped some, but alas, it only has a 50% success rate, and knee surgery forced me away from distance running, and the rest is history. A more recent sleep study revealed I still have OSA, although not nearly as bad as 10 years ago.

LAUP makes me a poor candidate for a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) or a BiPAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure), the positional therapy had no effect according to an Oximetry performed while sleeping (which found my average saturation at 86%, with anything below 90% abnormal), and now they've got me sleeping on oxygen in hopes of getting my saturation level up.

Is it working? To early to tell as of yet, although I am cautiously optimistic. After 10 days of this they do another Oximetry to see if it's helping. Did I mention the Oxygen Concentrator is noisey as hell and throws off wicked heat? I had to place it in an adjoining bathroom and close the door (it comes with 25' of tubing) it was so noisey. Last night I placed a thermometer in the bathroom, and it was 88F in there ... wow! What it does is convert room air to 95.6% oxygen, which is connected to me via tubing an a nasal cannula. :>

And now you know ...... the rest of the story ...
