A New Server Plugin: Mp_banscripts?

<div class="IPBDescription">Do NOT name specific servers in here!</div> Before I get started, I wanted to just say this: <b><i>Do NOT name specific servers in this thread!</i></b> This thread is for discussion about the issue <b><i><u>only</u></i></b>.
Now, it has come to my attention via another thread in these forums that there is a new server plugin out that instantly bans a player if they have scripts, regardless if they can actually use them (such as if mp_blockscripts is 1.) Furthermore, the plugin announces in a nice tsay that the player was banned for "script hacking" and says something else like "<span style='color:red'>type: 88 bunny hop</span>."
I never really had a problem with mp_blockscripts, as the only script I ever really used was a flashlight strobe for my primary fire (which also doubled as a pistol script, but back then I never used my pistol.) However, this is just taking it <b>way</b> too far IMO. It creates a bad name for scripts (as if it isn't bad enough already) and any newbies who happen to see someone get banned for "having" scripts will be given a bad impression akin to "OH EM GEE SCIPRTZ ARE T3h H4X0RZ," etc.
Opinions are welcome, obviously. Just don't post server names or IP's.

1. you shouldn't be banning people just because they had a script on, what if they go get rid of their scripts and want to join back in?
2. it shouldn't be annoucenced the way it is now
anyways just my 2 cents
I am afraid that if I post a specific link to the thread, it might eventually cause someone to ignore my rule and mention the server that was specified in that thread (and subsequently got it locked.)
Just look down a few topics for a locked thread started by LazerMane.
it bans if you jump too much, i get banned for bhopping with mwheel on those servers
lollll actally i remember someone posted the server on the cal forums and over half of the people that went there got autobanned for aimbot detection or something, it's a very good server you see

The thread didn't specify that, and I don't think hlguard will ban for this.

i'm pretty sure that's what it is, as the server was named previously and that's what its running
despite this

from the hlguard team themselves
Although the server listed was running this, do we KNOW in fact that's what is banning people? Pretend I'm from Missouri - show me what all plugins are running on it.

Oh, the irony!
I'm from Missouri, ya' know. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

This list in not complete, as it only shows Metamod plugins. I already verified there's likely not any AMXX plugins causing this.

whatever it is hlguard and it's fun because the very intelligent server admins left on 'alias checking' which bans you for having scripts like +3jump, which makes sense because they don't work anyway on NS servers.
'scripting is not allowed on this server' .. 'you have been banned'
Not to say this is the place for that discussion. But I don't mind if people use them, I just won't use them myself.
But damn, mp_blockscripts is enough. If they join and can't use their scripts they can go somewhere else or play without them, no big deal. But banning someone for having so much as a +3jump bind... thats taking things a little too far. Way too far. I don't even like servers with plugins to begin with... now I like them even less.
Nevermind servers which remove the human variable from the process of deciding who to ban and who to kick. Thats just a bad idea all by itself if you care so much take the time to admin your damned server.
I bet whoever made this plugin doesn't even know the slightest thing about what scripts are anyway.
Fingers are faster than a blinkswipe script.
Agreed.
Post got locked for my naming the server that was using it.
I'm sure this is just a minor occurence, and I don't think this will spread to other servers, but damn that's pretty harsh.
Oh yeah, when I was in said server, I think I was banned for sixty minutes in the end for defending the right to use scripts. Everyone on the server rose up and called me a nubcake for thinking scripting wasn't cheating.
As far as I'm concerned, CAL allows scripts, and I think that should set the standard.
Lerk pancaking has been removed from the game, and honestly I see no reason for mp_blockscripts to be in the game in the first place. Blinkswipe isn't a very useful tool, there are too many things that could go wrong. There's a tradeoff between ease of repetitive actions and losing control over what goes on in the game.
It's not about someone being cheap with scripts. It's not as if scripts give them invulnerability. If you're good you can handle them with or without scripts.
Because "Its their server and they'll run it how they want to!" <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Quoted for great justice.

I'm sure it depends on the blinkswipe script. How can it be faster to press: slot3, attack, slot1, swipe, compared to an alias for blink, and then an alias for swipe?
As fast I can easily conceive, but faster... I think it's just a bunch of elitist players who insist they're lightning fast and that they'll be better no matter what.
That being said, banning on a server for scripting is just plain silly. This fight is ridiculous, scripting isn't the end of the world, and I suppose that the best way to have a good time is to learn to play without scripts (as I have) because you know you'll end up being able to play without any problems. I'd rather stop using my amazing togglecrouch, toggleuse, togglewalk, toggleforward, than having to argue until my fingers get sore and end up changing servers and losing 10 minutes of gametime.

That's not the point though if they're running a defective plugin.

We know because the best players do not use them. By the way, it's not slot 3, attack, slot 1. It's q, attack, q.
The q can be pressed with the right time just as you release mouse1 from an attack so it switches straight back from an attack. It is faster than the script because you know when your blink is ready as opposed to the script which just switches you back regardless.
people pay money to host servers for you to play on for free, so they have every right to treat you in whatever shape, way, or form they please
you are a guest on a free service. you have no rights, you are not a "shareholder", you may make no demands. if you don't like it, get the hell out and stop crying about how it 'negatively effects the community', because honestly all that i see negatively effecting the community is people coming here and talking about it for pages and inevitably ending up in a flamewar
how incredibly productive
As for lastinv: I personally find that pressing two (well placed) keys/mouse buttons is faster than pressing twice the same button, because you have to slightly lift your finger and press back. Try it out, I might not be one of the "best players" but that doesn't prevent me from having a config that suits me just fine <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Edit:
titanium: Imagine it's a restaurant there's a difference between kicking a guest out and having a guest enter, forcing him to take his hatoff, then have two bouncers punch him in the stomach and tell him not to come again, rather than having a sign saying "please remove your hat"
The furthest scripting goes in the competitive battlefield as far as I have seen are small things, such as keybinds for radiocommands/chat entries, the 3jump script to improve bunny hopping, keybinds for commanders, and other things that don't radically change gameplay like the wigglewalk script.
It is my belief that the movement to ban scripting was started in the first place over the unreasonable abuse of the vertical acceleration rates of the lerk, meaning all the pancaking scripts.
Now Lerks can't pancake anymore, and professional Fades will pancake to escape a marine firezone anyway, with or without the scripts for it.
People have mentioned the blinkscript which I assume is for the rapid toggling of weapons in order to zoom in someone's face, swipe, and zoom away again. People have mentioned the threejump, which isn't even worth mentioning, it's so innocuous. They have also made mention of a 180 degree turning script where you press a key and you face backwards, which is useful for Lerks because they can reverse themselves in mid-flight and still retain their original forward speed. Not sure if that was fixed, though.
What other scripts than those that are potentially abusive? My guess is that there aren't many.
your analogy is both inaccurate and irrelevent
