Hold on, all of you guys so adamantly against smurfing mean to say that it's only used by people who cheat or want to ruin the game for other people. Maybe I'm in the minority, but when people smurf on the servers I play on, they do it for fun and humor. It's not for any ulterior motive beyond the fact that during one game, I couldn't for the life of me redeem as an onos so I swore off the ability entirely, that I decided to change my name to Iredeemable Onos the next game (and it's been my name of choice whenever I get bored of Dreya). Sticking to one name gets boring once in a while, and people might want to change things up for more reasons than ruining the game. Maybe I'm out of it, as usual, but why not give people the benefit of a doubt rather than throw a tantrum over their ability to alter their name whenever they please?

95% of fakenickers don't do it becuase of the 3 reasons above. They almost always whine a lot (-random player- killed d with LMG... <d> GET SOME RATES, FS.), but that's their nature, I think.
What <b>really</b> gets to me is the kids who use a single letter of the alphabet for their name- it makes communicating in the team much harder than it has to be (imagine telling someone named "i" to go somewhere, you will sound like someone with bad English referring to theirselves). <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> there is a much better fourth reason, and it is why i generally never use my actual handle in games: i don't want people bugging me. i want to play a videogame, not have a thousand people asking me about terror, to join evil, how to bunnyhop, what i'm doing tomorrow, or any other random garbage they're asking me just for the sake of talking to me. call me antisocial if you like but if i want a conversation i'll go to a bar, or if i'm lazy i'll get on ventrilo and talk to people i actually know.
since you seem to think most people who smurf are either cheating or extremely good, chances are they're not going to be listening to you anyways. when i play on pubs i see how many knife kills i can get, or repeatedly go gorge with focus and get spit kills for laughs. i don't care about the hive being sieged or if the phase gate is being lost, so not being able to effectively communicate with me and inform me of these events irrelevant. a lot of competitive players are the same, and i would think that <b>all</b> cheaters would probably be ignoring you as well anyways (not that i would know firsthand).
as an aside, i think it's far more childish for you to typecast those who choose to use a different name as all being either cheaters or griefers than it is for people to change their name when they don't feel like being bothered.
I play NS seriously on Lunixmonster, and when I play there, I always use Vitamin Lead. But, if I'm bored or no ones on LM I smurf all the time. On random CO servers for shooting practice and whatnot, or maybe a custom NS map server. It's fun to make up weird and random names and play with them only to change them the next time you play. Smurfing can be a pain the the *ahem* if a llama or a hacker is on, but STEAM id's can help with that if one REALLY cares to know who it is. When you're just having fun playing NS, who cares if you smurf. NS shouldn't be so serious at a normal pub level. (Obviously smurfing would be stupid/retarded/illegal in clan play, but duh)
you say <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> I play NS seriously on Lunixmonster<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
yet then you say <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->NS shouldn't be so serious at a normal pub level<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
care to explain the controversy between these quotes
i guess i should say NS shouldn't be taken as seriously on a pub level as on a clan level. But to say that I play more seriously on LM than another average server or a normal pub is still true. I play *competitively* on LM but always just to have fun, and not competitively in the sense of clan play. LM is where I go to play good games of classic NS, and so in that sense it's more serious.
Think of it this way Tomekki, one can play seriously in a clan, where the competition is more cutthroat, and one can play *seriously* to have fun. To play classic NS and succeed, you have to be at least somewhat serious, even if you are just trying to have fun, and that's the sense of the word that I used when I said that I play seriously on LM. On other servers, I don't necessarily care how well I play etc.
I also think that people shouldn't necessarily take NS as seriously on pubs as in clan play etc, which is why smurfing shouldn't be such an issue on pubs. (The different hats comment was pretty much right on.)
Get it now? It does make sense if you think about it, and I think that you can figure it out. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Hopefully that'll clear up your confusion tomekki.
My second in command guy in my clan never joins a scrim with the same name I saw him using last time... his vent name and IRC name are different. I don't smurf at all, but there isn't anything sinister about smurfing.

Well, I see your point about the hats and mixing it up, it's probably just, me I tend to stick to one identity. Also, why is it called "smurfing?" I never understood that one...
One other point: <b>STOP BEING A WITCH HUNTER</b> Let me tell you, the BuZZ Hook hack was made exclusively for NS, and it is awesome, it was so professional and came with a crapload of really cool cheats. But, I don't use it. I just one day got curious and wanted to find out what it was like. After 3 years of playing HL, I believe I wanted to know the cheating aspect of the game. as an aside, i think it's far more childish for you to typecast those who choose to use a different name as all being either cheaters or griefers than it is for people to change their name when they don't feel like being bothered.

you say
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> I play NS seriously on Lunixmonster<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
yet then you say
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->NS shouldn't be so serious at a normal pub level<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
care to explain the controversy between these quotes
<!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Hopefully that'll clear up your confusion tomekki.

hey guys I'm Flayra watching exigent vs. terror because I care about competitive NS.
And one more thing you idiot, I didn't ruin the game for <b>ANYONE</b> cause I tested it on alien bot servers, and the marines didn't seem to mind either, I told the admin I was running one...
P.S: Nice flash games...
