Got the Eclipse back. Took it out for a test drive. Heater hose burst within five miles, dropped all the coolant. Given how hot these engines run, I'll be surprised if I don't need to buy a new longblock and turbo now, even though I pulled over and stopped immediately.

I'd like to point out that the MR2 wasn't available in 1983, only the celica was, which makes that rally car a heavily modified version of the celica, as I stated before. :-)

My dad owns a car restoration business that when I'm not at uni I work at in return for my term time rent. This was last years big project that I spent weeks detailing last summer and is now sat on my drive after its yearly tune up. It's a Triumph <a href='http://www.tr-register.co.uk/tr3a.htm' target='_blank'>TR3a</a>. I'm not exactly sure of the year, but I think it's a 1960. Beautifull isn't it? These pics really don't do it justice.
It may be old, but from the few miles I've been allowed to put on it, I can say it's so much fun to drive. It had some serious engine work when we built it so the figures on the site linked above don't apply to it anymore (bhp is around 140~150), couple that to its ludicrously light weight (the body shell has a wooden frame, gg British engineering), the fact that it has no seatbelts and doors that are only just higher than your knees when sat in it, it really gets the adrenaline flowing when you put the hammer down.
When it gets back from the exhaust shop, I'll get pics of the MkII Jaguar E-Type coupe thats been fitted with a 454 Chevy big block V8 in place of the 4.2 litre Jaguar V12, that we're turning into a convertible.
Both of these cars are owned by the same guy btw. Money to burn? I'd say so.

Your own source discredits you ... a prototype is not one that they sell on the market for rally racing. Which is why that car you posted was a celica, not an mr2. :-)

To start off it had the optional 2138cc engine. This was bored out a little (I'm not sure how much, wasn't a huge amount). The cylinder head was also machined some. Everything was polished. A stainless steel manifold and exhaust was made up which freed it up quite a lot. We did some tinkering with the carbs and then a little more when it came back last week - at higher revs it seemed to stutter and stumble over itself. We traced it back to the old carb needle which we hadn't thought to change to a more fuel rich one. The piece of work that provided the biggest change though was lightening the flywheel, It had some 7lbs machined off. Trying to manuvre the car around the small workshop and yard is a real pig becuase of this as it keeps stalling but once you get it out on the road and put your foot down the accleration is amazing.
All in all nothing too radical, just generally concerned with improving the flow of gasses/fuel etc, but it's made a big difference - the owner says it can keep up with his late eighies Porsche (not a turbo) while going up quite a steep, very long hill we have round here, hitting about 90mph at the top. An impressive feat.
As for reliability, as far as I know the old Triumph engines were the same as used in Leyland tractors and a few vans and were more than reliable (considering the era). I could be wrong on this though.
The V12 to V8/coupe to convertible E-Type should be back some time next week and if I remember my camera on Monday morning I'll get some pics of the MGA's and MGB's we have in the shop (including the MGB I spent Thursday and Friday chopping to try and fit a V8 in) not to mention the three 'pre-impact bumper' Porsches (ones a 4 cylinder <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->) and VW convertible Beetle since it appears we have some classic car fanicers on the forum <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

400 bucks from my dads friend in PA, Said "Bad Arse Girls Drive Bad Arse Toys" but now it just says "Bad Arse" in the rear window. Ima put a 6" lift kit, 33" tires, body kit, and give it the paint job it needs. The inside just needs some cleaning, and my friend is going to give me his old sound system. Lightning Audio FF212.250 Amplifier and Dual Subwoofers with 4 satellite speakers.
The tranie was redone not to long ago, it had a new engine put in 50k miles ago, and with high and low 4WD this thing can go anywhere...

As to the 33" rubber, I had very good luck with the 32" all terrain BF Goodrich's when I had my Bronco. Well its going to be a while before i start doin anything to it, my doctor wont let me drive (On some serious pills) till he see's me in Nov, and since i cant drive i cant get a job to pay for anything. I get 100 or so every month from working on the internet and stuff, but thats not enough to do much.
i need some quick car advice my brother is looking to buy a new sports car (used to drive a seconed generation turbo mr2) and hes found a Porche 944 for only 9800 and hes wondering if its a good car?

I can go up to about 45 km/h if I cycle really hard downhill. I dont know how much my bike weighs, but its prolly 5 kilos
