<div class="IPBDescription">Anyone else listen?</div> I'm learning to really enjoy a lot of indie music. My tops right now are "<a href='http://www.purevolume.com/theacademyis' target='_blank'>The Academy Is</a>" and "<a href='http://www.purevolume.com/circasurvive' target='_blank'>Circa Survive</a>".
Anyone like these guys? Or any other Indie Music?

Other than that I don't really listen to indie that much any more, the lyrics are too wishy-washy, tbh :\.
this is my genre. :>
hell, Indie Rock Pete is my avatar, after all.
wishy-washy? twangy? bah! perhaps you prefer metal, or rap? I prefer my lyrics sung and not screamed or spoken, my instruments played and not banged, and my emotions raw and not contrived. and not much of indie rock is twangy - only the country-themed artists, like iron and wine... it's a very broad genre, after all. the postal service is mainly electronic; iron and wine is acoustic; metric is pure rock; yo la tengo is experimental velvet underground-y rock; sleater-kinney and liz phair are hard rockish, etc...
basically a band goes into the indie rock genre if it's more like rock than any other genre, and if it's more concerned with expression than money.
... I really don't see that as a genre, just a method of making the music. So that pretty much invalidates your question, or at least in my view.
My perception of indie comes pretty much from all the random bands that are making the british charts in the past couple of years, who seem on their way to rock but not quite there. Sometimes there is a piano involved. And most of all they are twangy.
Lovin' that word.

Punk, tbh. It's like indie except the lyrics aren't supposed to be interpreted in a bunch of different ways. Plus since when does metal have contrived emotions? Surely a singer screaming his song is putting more emotion into it than someone who's just singing.
Screaming doesn't sound too good usually, emotional or not. Or not to my ears. With metal bands I've come across its not even screaming lyrics, its.... BLAAAAARGH!!!

True. screaming like BLAAAAAAAAARGH is bad, but screaming out the actual lyrics when done right is good. Heavy Metal is better than like... Trash Metal.
Mainstream rock and rap tends to be depressing and I really dont need that.
Does anyone here have any good songs to recommend.

I can agree with that. :>
So, it's not true that screaming = bad lyrics.

No one said screaming = bad lyrics! The lyrics are the same whether you scream or talk or sing or BLAAAAAARGGH!! 'em out. Its just the effect that these various methods have <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
But aside from hijacking the thread with screaming, I suppose I can conclude that Indie does have a redeeming feature in that there is often pretty good singing involved.
Oh, and the W E L C O M E are pretty darn good too, check 'em out on purevolume.
I don't know why I like his music.
Does DCAB count as indie?
EDIT: i love the shins
Cuz either way, a good chunk of the artists being named here are by no means indie.

EDIT : Clickified
That said, you'll normally find me at almost any show that has local bands or small-time bands playing. I find that there's nothing better than going out on a friday or saturday to some community center just to hear some band you've never heard of before play just because someone told you they were pretty good.
I don't associate myself with one genre of music, but lately I've been real into punk bands. Don't really know why, but for some reason or another it just kicks my face in.
Plus, punk shows around here are flipping brutal. Some 20 year olds with 8 inch high mohawks, mid-thigh boots, and leather in a big pit beating the **** out of each other. Good way to release some tension among other things *cough*.
Almost too many bands to list, plus 90% of them don't have sites, heh.
Hehe...
