<div class="IPBDescription">MS attempt at PS like program...</div> <a href='http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/default.aspx' target='_blank'>Microsoft Acrylic (beta)</a>

Microsoft's attempt at getting out a powerful image editor. I don't like it as much as the other editors currently marketed. Any other opinions on this? Will it be a flop for Microsoft? I'm willing to bet it will flop.

I still like <a href='http://www.gimp.org' target='_blank'>The Gimp</a> better... if only more people would develop the fine motor skills required to <b><i>RIGHT CLICK</i></b>, it might surpass Photoshop, given how powerful it is in comparison.

Perhaps <i>you</i> have mastered the mouse Talesin, but this technique <i>right click</i> you speak of still eludes my grasp.

The main problem I have with the gimp: 1) Billions of windows. 2) Lack of brushes.

there's plenty of brushes and if you can't find one you need, just make it! it's not very hard.

Anyone see the irony in the fact that one of the most powerful image editors is fundamentally incompatable with Macintosh, due to the one-button mouse? So much for macs and graphics...

Yes because they will never understand the power of the right click.

Tal, I use GIMP at home, but its interface is just about twice as complicated as any of the competitors, which kind of eliminates it from the competition. Yeah, sure, you get anything you want via the pop-ups. Which makes the whole thing inneccessantly clunky.

I count four in about 10 seconds of searching for a multibutton mouse for an Apple.

You do realize that almost all video editing studios use a multibutton mouse... for an Apple.

Yes, I realize full well I can buy 2 button mice for the apple. It doesn't change the fact that Macs ship with a one-banger, and in order to use the features, you have to go out and buy a whole other piece of hardware.

It's the principle of the thing.

Most computers don't come with optical mice either.. you have to buy those seperate, this is no different. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yes, but optical mice only enhance already existing capabilities. It's not the same as adding a new function altogether.

Apples have a work around for a right click, its called the "Apple button", or it is ctrl.

It sounds more like they're shooting to compete with Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand, although, I'll admit I haven't much experience with those programs from which to base this assumption.

I don't know for sure, not having a mac. But in java, the check for a windows right mouse click also detects a mac click while holding down a "command" key.

I get what you mean, though.
