>>> Screen Resolution Survey

<div class="IPBDescription">Thanks to all that reply...</div> Hi guys!

I'm designing a layout for a Natural Selection website. Since you are all NS players I thought this would be a good place to ask.

What screen resolutions do you guys have set? The reason I'm asking is that it's a 'convention' to design for 800x600. The thing is there's no need to do that you're all running 1024x768 resolutions or higher.

Just reply with your resolution settings please! If you don't know what reso you're on; find out by right clicking on your desktop wallpaper, click properties, then settings - and there should be a slider saying what resolution you have set.

Thanks to all that reply!

    Some of you answered before I turned this thread into a poll - I hope it's only a minor inconvenience that I erased your answer. This'll make it much easier to count.

    I love you, Marik. At least YOU know that you should run a 4:3 resolution on a 4:3 screen.

    Where the hell is 1280*1024?

    It's not there cause it's an incorrect resolution >_>

    1280/4 = 320
    1024/3 = 341.333333333333

    Thus, it is not a 4:3 ratio <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Can't you make it resolution-independent, just like every other site out there? Isn't that easier? (I don't know though)

    I chose 800x600 by accident. I used 1024x768.

    No, it's a fine resolution. Obviously you dont have a 19" monitor like us. I belive it's a form of widescreen.

    Who freaking cares? All the other resolutions look like crap on my monitor. At least provide the option when so many people use it.

    I voted 1280x960 but my true setting is 1280x1024

    EDIT: I noticed that you didnt include it on purpose... Well for my 17" LCD this is the best setting.

    1024x768 for me. I can see everything, and the icons/text are of reasonable size.

    It can't be a widescreen. Widescreen would have a larger X axis, not a larger Y axis.

    1280 x 1024 - Because I use a 19" flat screen and it looks best that way.

    Many cinematic flat panel displays require a widescreen resolution (1280x1024) as well.

    1280 x 960 (1280x1024 desktop though). Basing a site design on people's screen size isn't a good idea IMHO, make it scalable. I don't know a lot of people that still run 800 x 600 (or lower....).
  • BigDBigD [OldF] Join Date: 2002-10-25 Member: 1596Members
    Hrmm, basing on 800x600 though allows me to have two windows open side by side when I'm on my school's 1600x1200 monitors... I like sites that run that resolution for that. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I personally run 1024x768 at home most of the time.

    124*768...1280 x 960 is okay, ive tried it...anything over that is overkill (unless uve got a projector like a friend of mine....it's 1337...wonder what size he runs <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    1280 * 1024 the poll doesnt account for 5:4 resolutions <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    And yeah you should build your website so that it displays in 800 * 600 and doesnt require horizontial scrolling in 1024 * 768 (actually you should do that for 800 * 600 but I dont want to be accused of not practising what i preach <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Easist way is a centered website which is one 750px wide column.

    3200x1200... I love having a dual head setup.     1280x1024 And I'm betting that 75% of the people that chose 1280 x 960 are using 1280 x 1024.

    1280x1024 is not 4:3 but is used by a lot of people. Most of 17 lcd screens support this resolution natively and it is the best choice.

    Alright, before anyone gets more than mildly annoyed at the lack of nonstandard resolutions: the forums let me put a max of 10 possible answers.
