Dune And Star Wars

Possible Spoilers
Anyone notice some similarities between Dune and Star Wars? Anakin and Paul both have extraordinary abilities, prescience. Padme and Chani die in child birth, and they both bear a boy and a girl, also with extraordinary capabilities. And galactic warfare and so on.

I may just be crazy, but I kept thinking about it during Revenge of the Sith.

Star Wars has as much in relation to Dune as it has to many other things; notice that website Confuzor posted. George Lucas wanted to take classic mythological archetypes and set them in a futuristic setting, and that's what you've got. The influence of Dune is actually smaller than you would think; the Sci-Fi stuff that's borrowed is probably bigger than the story stuff, because Dune follows classic mythology just like Star Wars does. If you see story elements in common, you can probably find those in many of the stories that have existed for generations. For more information, I'd read either that website or Joseph Cambell's Hero with a Thousand Faces.

I noticed immediatly in Rots, the visions "style" used exactly the same layers and effect used in the good ol Dune movie. I also still think personally, the guy who playd Paul in Dune, Kyle something, should have been the one doing Luke.

Each and every dune movie I have ever seen was complete and utter trite. I have read the entire dune series though at least four times, starting when I was 15.

There are a few similarities between starwars and dune, but only in passing.

From that link: Star wars: Princess Leia Dune: Princess Alia (pronounced a-leia)

Last I checked, Leia wasn't posessed by her grandfather's evil persona.

    I don't know, I liked the Sci-Fi miniseries.
